‘Should the police not have used plastic bullets earlier?’ asks @StephenNolan Not a thing learned from the tragedy and heartbreak of the past. Deeply, deeply shocking.

It is with mixed emotions we share the news that after twelve years of dedicated service, Mary Kate Quinn will be leaving her role as Social Support Coordinator with Relatives for Justice. For over a decade, Mary Kate has provided unwavering support to countless individuals and families, bringing exceptional care, compassion and professionalism to her work. Her commitment to those affected by conflict-related bereavement and trauma has been a source of strength and reassurance to many during some of the most difficult periods of their lives. This was particularly the case during, and after, the pandemic as she restructured and blended social support into our professional and fully accredited health and wellbeing services, thereby expanding the reach of our our face-to-face and remote social support, to so many previously isolated. Mary Kate’s role has extended far beyond practical support. She has built lasting relationships based on trust, empathy and respect, ensuring that every person she worked alongside felt heard, valued and supported. Her warmth, integrity and tireless dedication have made an immeasurable contribution to RFJ and to the wider community we serve. Speaking on her departure, Mary Kate said:"Today I close a chapter that has been a significant part of my life for the past 12 years. "It has been a privilege to work for Relatives for Justice and to have had the opportunity to walk alongside so many incredible individuals and families. I have learned so much from the strength, courage and generosity of the people I have met along the way, and I will always be grateful for the trust they placed in me. "As I turn the page to a new chapter, I do so with a full heart and a great sense of gratitude for all that this journey has given me. I have made lifelong friends in RFJ with other team members, senior staff, Trustees and of course members. "I wish Relatives for Justice every success in the future as it continues its important work. This chapter of my story will always stay me. xxx" All of the staff, Trustees and members at Relatives for Justice wish to express our sincere gratitude to Mary Kate for her outstanding contribution over the last twelve years. She leaves a lasting legacy within the organisation and will be greatly missed by us all and all those whose lives she has touched through her work. While team members, senior staff and Trustees are sorry to see our dear and valued friend leave, we wish her every success and happiness in the future and thank her for the extraordinary dedication she has shown throughout her time with RFJ. Thank you, Mary Kate. xxx

Each of the Springhill Massacre families received a personal letter from the Prime Minister. This came AFTER an effective and human rights inquest which rewrote and rectified the inaccurate historical record. Having suffered egregiously for so many years this is a landmark day for these families and gives hope to so many others, who have equal rights to truth, justice and acknowledgement. We owe each of these families, and the injured, a great debt for their courage and dignity.

RFJ welcomes today’s court decision to quash the Victims’ Payment Board’s ruling in relation to a “paramilitary-style” shootings and attacks. We will review this judgement in full to understand its implications and determine the next steps for those who have submitted their appeals through RFJ and those who are awaiting the outcome of this decision. We will then be in touch as soon as possible.

Confirming what families knew. MI5 and policing vested interests came together to deny justice to all families, from all backgrounds, affected by all actors, their rights to truth, justice and accountability. Families have since successfully led the challenges to these shameful efforts

"Whilst there may be differing views and opinions on the conflict, and how we each experienced it, the underpinning of that difference is best served in respectful discussions, not hate. It should no longer be acceptable. "We need more effective legislative protections for all of the bereaved and injured from hate crimes which celebrate atrocities."
