There are new reports about the death count in Iran. 43,000 people have been murdered in Iran for protesting for their freedom over the last 3 weeks. The killing has not stopped.

Narges Bachoghli goes on @FareedZakaria and says “things seem calm,” that the IRGC and security forces are fully in control, and that “there is not a unified opposition” ready to topple the regime. That picture hides the reality of mass killings, internet shutdowns, and fear that make streets look quiet, and ignores how united people inside Iran are in wanting the Islamic Republic gone and chanting Reza Pahlavi’s name as a national leader figure. Fareed Zakaria inviting her instead of frontline activists or widely backed opposition figures is not an accident. For years, Western media have picked the same type of “Iran expert” who spends time around regime insiders and sells the idea that the regime is strong and permanent while saying the opposition is too divided to win, just like voices such as Trita Parsi and Javad Zarif’s camp have done in international debates.
