In a world hungry for new markets, one of the biggest success stories is unfolding, largely unnoticed, in the Horn of Africa. This is #Somaliland, a de facto nation that built a democracy from the ashes of war, and it's on the brink of an economic explosion. Thread 1/18 🧵

#Somaliland existed before Somalia ever did. History makes that clear.
Somaliland existed and operated as a country before #Somalia ever existed.

You can spend a lifetime building a state, or denying someone else’s. ...one path requires vision. The other only hate and resentment. #Somaliland #SomalilandRecognition

To #Somalilanders: If you're wondering where President Irro is, he’s currently representing you at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland! He’s scheduled for key meetings with Israeli President Herzog and US President Trump. Big moves for #Somaliland on the global stage. 🌍 #WEF2026 #Somaliland

No courts. No security forces. No taxation. No elections. No governance. Yet claims 'exclusive authority' over a port they've never set foot in. What exactly is this, sovereignty by press release? 😂 Or maybe governance by group tag, tagging half of Twitter like it'll magically enforce your 'constitution.' Statehood by spam notification. 😭😅 Sovereignty isn't declared in echo chambers; it's exercised on the ground. Berbera thrives under Somaliland's actual authority: real investments, real operations, real stability, thanks to deals like DP World's that your 'federal' phantom couldn't dream of managing without imploding. Paper claims don't run ports. Tweets don't control territory. And 'rule of law'? That's rich coming from a setup that can't even rule its own capital without foreign babysitters. End of delusion.

This is the army of #Somaliland. Capable, disciplined, and battle-ready.
Somaliland has built an exceptionally strong and disciplined army over the last 35 years, successfully securing its borders and protecting its regions from deadly terrorist groups, while also helping to suppress piracy at sea and actively contributing to regional peace and stability. Because of Somaliland’s long-term commitment to security and nation-building, its neighbouring countries — Djibouti, Ethiopia, and even Somalia itself — have never lived with constant fear that their borders are at immediate risk from cross-border terror infiltration or violent incursions coming from Somaliland’s side. Now compare that reality with Somalia: for the past 34 years, the UN, EU, USA, UK, and many other international partners have spent billions of dollars on Somalia’s security sector, military development, and stabilization efforts. And this year marks the 20th anniversary since African Union peacekeepers were first deployed to Somalia — a full two decades of international intervention, training, funding, and frontline sacrifice. Yet after 20 years, Somalia’s security remains heavily dependent on foreign forces, who are still the ones securing the most critical and sensitive locations in the country: the ports, the airports, key government offices, and even the presidential offices themselves. This is not a minor gap — it is a fundamental indicator of a state that has not yet achieved independent security capacity despite enormous global investment and support. Even worse, the territories that Somalia’s international partners invested billions into building and defending are being abandoned every day, one area after another — and the most recent example, Adan Yabal, made that reality painfully evident to everyone watching. When a government cannot hold and protect the areas that were rebuilt, trained, funded, and defended for years, it raises a serious question: where did all that investment go, and why is security still collapsing? If you truly want to understand the difference between Somaliland and Somalia, the answer is not complicated — it comes down to the mindset of the political class in each country. Somaliland’s political leaders, despite limited resources and lack of international recognition, have remained visionary, strategic, and committed to making the national interest the first priority. Their leadership is defined by long-term thinking: building institutions, defending the homeland, protecting communities, and securing borders with a sense of responsibility and purpose. Meanwhile, Somalia’s political leadership has too often operated with a mindset driven by personal benefit, corruption, and the constant milking of the state. For many of them, the first question is not “How does this strengthen the country?” but rather “What do I gain from this project?” — a kind of leadership that is purely transactional, short-sighted, and self-serving. This is the core difference: a leadership culture built on national vision and responsibility versus a leadership culture trapped in transactions, corruption, and personal interest.

This is crazy
In Mogadishu, groups of citizens holding radical beliefs gathered in crowds and sent hostile messages toward #Israel, openly calling on the Al‑Shabaab jihadist group to join what they claim is the people’s voice to terrorize Israel, after Israel recognized the peaceful and friendly State of #Somaliland—an act they believe violated Somalia’s sovereignty.

Defeating extremism requires both moral and political credibility. Mogadishu’s priority should be stabilizing its own country and ensuring the safety of its people, not delivering misguided lectures. Saudi Arabia is a responsible and sovereign state that does not take cues from failed governance. The Republic of Somaliland remains committed to peace, stability, and constructive engagement, not threats.

That claim is simply false and misleading. Al-Shabaab is a multinational terror group with members and leaders from many Somali clans, regions, and even foreign countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Yemen, the Gulf, and beyond). They operate almost exclusively in southern and central Somalia because prolonged instability, weak governance, and ongoing conflict there provide space for insurgent groups to hide, recruit, and operate. They do not operate in Somaliland precisely because Somaliland is peaceful, secure, and has effective local security and intelligence. When Al-Shabaab has attempted attacks in Somaliland, they have been quickly disrupted or eliminated. Saying Al-Shabaab is “from Somaliland” because some individuals may trace ancestry there is as illogical as saying ISIS is “from Europe” because some fighters were European. Terror groups do not represent the societies they come from, they prey on weak environments, not stable ones. The facts are clear: Somaliland’s stability is the reason Al-Shabaab cannot function there, not the other way around.

The best mayor in Somaliland is the Mayor of Berbera. I am so happy he transformed this beautiful and important city from the Nuux Ismail empire days into today Somaliland’s most strategic and cleanest city. Probably third cleanliness city in Africa. More years to him.

Somalia declared a war on Somaliland. They're spewing threats and jihad calls from their terrorist-sympathizing clown president @HassanSMohamud, who's basically Al-Shabaab's puppet in a suit. Somalia is a total shitshow, collapsing under clan feuds, corruption sucking up billions in aid, and streets so unsafe they beg for foreign troops to wipe their asses. Now, after Israel recognized Somaliland on Dec 26, 2025, these failures are panicking, rallying Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and China to arm up and invade, because admitting Somaliland's success exposes their pathetic, genocide-denying regime that slaughtered Somalilanders in the 80s and still honors those butchers. Screw their "unity" fantasy; it's just a cover to drag Somalilanders back into their endless chaos. Somaliland's been independent since '91, with real elections, a stable economy, ports like Berbera booming, oil deals firing up this year, and zero reliance on ATMIS crutches. They've got higher literacy, zero terror groups, and alliances lining up while Somalia's defense minister, that ex-Al-Shabaab hack @AhmedMoFiqi , screams holy war like the coward he is. To win this crap they started, Somaliland should strike back hard: First, lock in that defense pact with Israel now, let them set up bases on the Gulf of Aden coast to smash any Turkish or Saudi-backed invasion before it starts. Train troops with Israeli tech and tactics; you've got the guts from your liberation war, now amp it with real hardware to defend every inch. Push Trump and the US to recognize you ASAP, especially with their anti-Iran plays in the Horn; you've got bills in Congress like H.R.3992 ready to roll, and Berbera's perfect for US ops against Houthis or whoever. Flood the world with your story: Blast Somalia's lies on every platform, expose their arms shipments from Turkey landing in Mogadishu, and rally the diaspora to lobby hard in DC, London, and Brussels. Get Ethiopia and UAE to double down on security ties, maybe joint exercises to deter any eastern push from Khaatumo thugs. Economically, crank up oil exploration and trade deals to fund your defenses; screw Somalia's blockade, you've got Taiwan, Israel, and more lining up. Legally, slam them at the UN and ICJ for threats, citing your pre-1960 borders and their failed state status no AU norm can ignore anymore. Domestically, unite every clan, resolve Sool/Sanaag BS fast, and mobilize the nation; this is existential, but you've beaten worse. Somalia's axis of losers Turkey-Saudi-Egypt-Qatar-China thinks they can bully you? Hell no, they'll choke on their own failures while you thrive. Time to end this once and for all; Somaliland wins by being the badass stable force they can only dream of. Drop the charade, world recognize Somaliland now! #SomalilandIndependence #SomaliaTerrorState #DefendSomaliland #IsraelAlliance #HornOfAfricaWar
