What was the end result of Democrats' DHS shutdown?
Effectively nothing beyond the partisan grandstanding, the clicks they knew it would generate online, and real people forced to work without a paycheck.
This historically chaotic stretch is over. @HouseGOP passed the aptly named Secure America Act, and the basic functions of national security and safety are back online.

The final solid rocket booster segments for NASA's Artemis III mission have left Promontory, Utah, and are on their way to Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Built by Northrop Grumman, the massive boosters will help power the Space Launch System rocket, generating 7.2 million pounds of thrust at liftoff as NASA works toward returning astronauts to the moon.
The newly shipped segments will join others already delivered to Florida and will be among the first pieces assembled for the mission.

I am a Latter-day Saint and a Christian. But theological debates aside, the government should not be in the business of deciding who counts as Christian.
Latter-day Saints and Christians of every tradition are united by our common commitment to the teachings of Christ, and we are stronger in that shared purpose.
I appreciate @SecWar Hegseth for working with my office and the Utah delegation to correct the record.
Last week, a proposed list of simplified faith codes was released to the media. The Pentagon list included redundant and unnecessary labeling, and the mistake has been fixed.
The goal of this effort is to simplify a previously out-of-control “belief” coding system that had ballooned to over 200 codes.
In order to clarify the work of chaplains, and simplify the work of commanders, the Pentagon has consolidated and simplified the list to roughly thirty codes — using the previously used labels for faiths.
The Pentagon’s job is not to adjudicate theological debates, but instead to ensure sincerely-held faith is respected and encouraged in our ranks.

The Pentagon’s decision to list The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints apart from other Christian faiths is wrong and needs to be corrected.
No one needs to wonder where members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stand. We stand with Christ. We are Christians.
On that ground, and on the much larger ground of shared faith, values, and purpose, Latter-day Saints stand alongside many Christians of every tradition in following the teachings of Christ.
We only ask to be accurately portrayed.
I strongly urge the Department to correct the record.

The Office of the Secretary of War is announcing a significant change to the Department’s categorization of religious affiliation. In a long overdue move, we reduced the list from over 200 unmanageable categories to 31. With this move, we are returning to the original intent of collecting this data - to allow our chaplains and religious support personnel to provide the best spiritual care to our warfighters.
This decrease in religious affiliation codes is not designed to make any claims on the legitimacy of any faith or religious belief, nor is it intended to provide a list of “officially approved” religions. Rather, it is designed to allow chaplains to quickly look at the religious composition of their units and determine how they structure resources to best provide for warfighters of all faith groups.
The Department of War places a high value on the First Amendment and the free exercise of religion. Chaplains play an instrumental role in providing spiritual care and facilitating the Warfighters' ability to freely exercise their religion of choice, or no religion at all. With this new change, we believe we can provide the best data to support our chaplains in that effort.

Fraud in our child care programs is a serious fiscal problem for this nation. But it’s also a clear moral failure that should trouble everyone, Republican and Democrat alike.
As a physician, I was trained to look beyond symptoms and identify root causes. When something isn’t working, the answer isn’t to keep repeating the same approach. It’s to find what’s causing the problem and address it at its source.
The fraud draining our child care programs is evidence of a system that has gone too long without sufficient accountability and oversight.
@HouseGOP is treating the root cause and passing legislation to close those loopholes, strengthen accountability, and make sure taxpayer dollars actually reach the individuals they were meant to serve.
