In today's @HomelandGOP hearing, I called on my Democrat colleagues to join me in advancing legislation that would strengthen federal penalties for doxxing, threatening, or intimidating federal law enforcement officers. Those who put their lives on the line to protect our nation deserve our support. Congress must act to put an end to this harassment.

I spent some time this afternoon with Mayor Blong, Sheriff Criner, and Police Chief Snow after the tragic act of violence that took place in Midland today. I am grateful for local, state, and federal law enforcement who secured the scene and the many officers who engaged in a prolonged standoff. Many heroic actions were undertaken today to protect the community. The medical teams assisting the wounded also saved many lives today and we are thankful for their dedicated care. Please continue to pray for all of the victims and their loved ones.

I am actively monitoring the tragic shooting that occurred in Midland this morning. Extremely grateful for the bravery of local law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to protect our community. Please join me in lifting all of the victims up in prayer.

I’m proud to lead the effort in Congress to award the Medal of Honor to Maj Robert Lodge and am thrilled that legislation to posthumously recognize Major Lodge passed the House Armed Services Committee last week. Major Lodge made the ultimate sacrifice to protect highly classified intelligence sources and methods during the Vietnam War and knew he could not fall into enemy hands.
