Private First Class Helmut Fred Behlert was an extraordinary American soldier who put country above self. He was killed in action in 1944 in Saipan. More than 80 years later, his remains were flown to SFO last night. smcgov.org/ceo/news/after-81…
I’m astounded that the State of California paid out over $350k in sexual harassment claims against Treasurer Fiona Ma in 2024. In Congress, we changed the rules and made the member responsible for the payout.
I think a bill should be introduced to require any legislator or statewide elected officer be held accountable by paying for their substantiated sexual harassment claims by staff.

Abuse of power in Congress is not new. But once the Me Too movement exploded in 2017, I along with Republican Congressman Bradley Byrne from Alabama reformed the process by which victims of sexual harassment and assault could be protected and the Member be held accountable.
Instead of turning a blind eye Members of the House need to swiftly investigate and take action against this illegal conduct. Women don’t report because they think they are alone. They blame themselves and the perpetrator is emboldened to continue the illegal conduct.
On the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, the Board of Supervisors recognized astronaut and physician Yvonne Cagle and civil rights leader Clarence Jones. Watch how Dr. Cagle's inspirational words transport the entire chamber into space.
Jones was a trusted adviser and legal counsel to Dr. Martin Luther King and was a wordsmith of the historic “I Have a Dream” speech. At 95, he is still making good trouble.

Happy Lunar New Year! We say goodbye to the Year of the Snake and say hello to the Year of the Horse. The horse symbolizes energy, freedom and forward momentum. In a year when our freedom is at stake it is important to remember how important it is.
