Imagine you are a 74 year old woman. In bed. During Easter weekend 2026. Alone. Or you think you are. Because you wake up at about 0220 and there is a masked stranger in your bed. That stranger then proceeds to rape you and spends the next hour subjecting you to the most horrific acts, including penetrating you with a telescopic baton (pictured) and beating you. Eventually he flees and you call the police before being rushed to hospital. The man was discovered by the police in a vehicle at the foot of the building, arrested and charged. His name was Mourad A, a 25 year old Algerian of no fixed abode. It is believed he was in France illegally. He is in detention due to the severity of the attack and the flight risk. He is presumed innocent of course and is awaiting trial. That poor woman deserved better. We deserve better. Borders need to be controlled.
