Domestic industrial ambitions have been tempered by production limitations, requiring off-the-shelf procurements to meet military requirements. For far too long, our Foreign Service Officer system prioritized consensus over results. That’s changing under @SecRubio.

Bolo pre nás cťou privítať v Bratislave Dr. Richarda Weitza z Hudson Institute. Počas diskusií s odborníkmi, mladými lídrami a médiami zdôraznil kľúčovú úlohu vedúceho postavenia Spojených štátov pri podpore globálnej bezpečnosti a hospodárskej prosperity. Teší nás silný záujem o americkú zahraničnú politiku aj nové partnerstvá, ktoré Dr. Weitz nadviazal so svojimi slovenskými partnermi.

🇺🇸🛡️🇦🇹 Addressing transatlantic security challenges in an evolving threat environment. This week, @HudsonInstitute's @RichardWeitzDC visited Vienna to discuss perspectives on U.S. national security and defense strategies with Austrian military, policy, and civil society leaders. These transatlantic exchanges are important to develop a clear, shared understanding of evolving global challenges and steps needed to address them. Over two days, he participated in: ✅ Roundtable discussions with Austrian Armed Forces and the National Defense Academy ✅ Strategic dialogue at the @AIES_austria ✅ Panel on drone technology in contested environments at the #DroneVation Conference ✅ Meeting with youth political leaders

Thank you for the opportunity.
We were pleased to host Dr. Richard Weitz, a leading U.S. scholar on security and great-power competition, and provide an opportunity for counterparts and partners to engage on strategic deterrence in the 21st century. To that end, the United States has proposed modernized, multilateral strategic stability and arms control discussions to protect nuclear materials and strengthen global security. The multilateral approach can prevent an unmitigated nuclear arms race and limit the build‑up of nuclear arms.   @StateACN

And now the FY27 Pentagon nuclear forces request: $71.4 billion. For a total w/NNSA of $98.8 billion. An increase of $12 billion (or ~14%) over the FY26 request. And 6.6% of the total national defense (function 050) request of $1.5 trillion. comptroller.war.gov/Portals/…

The $27.44 billion FY27 request for NNSA weapons activities is $3.18 billion (or 13%) more than the FY26 enacted level and $6.1 billion (or 29%) more than the FY25 projection for FY27. There wasnt a FY26 FYNSP, but as of FY25 weapons wasnt slated to exceed $27 billion til FY34.

In 1996, both China and the US signed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, which prohibits all nuclear explosions. But at a Hudson event in February, @StateACN Assistant Secretary Yeaw announced that China secretly tested nuclear weapons in 2020. As China and Russia increase their nuclear stockpiles, US officials are considering underground nuclear tests, as abstaining while Beijing and Moscow covertly test "creates intolerable disadvantage to the United States." Presidents Xi and Trump should address the issue of nuclear weapons testing along with nuclear arms control to enhance strategic stability between China and the United States, @RichardWeitzDC writes.
