Funniest quote is from Jarvis when asked about his reaction when Tulsky was named GM: "I knew he was extremely smart. And that's hard to find in hockey sometimes."
The jock, the nerd and the Stanley Cup. How Rod Brind’Amour and Eric Tulsky turned one of the NHL’s oddest partnerships into a @Canes Stanley Cup championship. My deep dive into how Carolina won the Cup. Enjoy! espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/4906…

I can understand why the default would be to trust that NHL teams know more about every aspect of the game than random bloggers.

Maybe should have considered it a bit more.
"That could be the stupidest question I've ever heard." 😳 John Tortorella DID NOT like being asked whether he considered putting in Adin Hill.

As Lee said, Slavin is a great shutdown D but not a true #1 D-man. He was third among Canes d-men in 5v5 TOI/game and fifth in xGF%. He had the toughest deployment and best high danger suppression, but Walker and Miller were better in almost every other defensive metric.
The Carolina Hurricanes are a perfect example that not every winner has to be built the same way. Not the biggest or the best down the middle, no true superstars, no number 1 D, no elite goaltender, just a decently deep team playing a good system that they’ve all bought into.

Right, because it has nothing to do with his center getting hurt, the opposing goalie catching fire, and his own goalie having a historically bad series. This is definitely because the highest scoring player in the playoffs (by 7 points) is not clutch. It's all Marner's fault.

Mitch Marner's Conn Smythe campaign ran dry in the latter half of the #StanleyCupFinal.😬

A fourth round pick, an undersized winger playing center, and a #Blackhawks outcast. Outside of Blake, they weren't considered "top 6" caliber players in their roles. Together under Brind'Amour, they were the best line in the playoffs. The power of team identity.
The Hall/Blake/Stankoven lin e had a 72% goal share, 67% shot share, and 63% xGoal share at 5v5.

In the most smug voice I can muster: "well he's not ideal size...is he really the kind of guy you win with in the playoffs?" Walker, Ghost, Stank, Blake all just proved that you just find good players and good things happen.

The Stankoven, Blake, and Hall line 5v5 shares for the postseason via NST: •67% shots •63.8% high danger chances •68.2% expected goals •72% goals The three of them scored exactly 50% of the 5v5 goals for the Hurricanes

Incredible that the only major misstep the Canes made was trying to chase a superstar (the Mikko Rantanen situation). So many people counted them out when he was flipped to the Stars. One year three months and eight days later, the Canes are champions. #SoundTheSiren
Lotta people out there who have some tweets to delete about the Canes. Huge congrats to the Carolina franchise for sticking to their guns, doubling down on strengths even after failures, and finding value where others didn’t. Masterfully built and coached to overwhelm.

Jason Robertson on his future with the Dallas Stars amid contract uncertainty: "I understand it's a business on both sides, right? I'm optimistic, I hope. But yeah, it's not like what it was when I was 10 years old getting into the NHL anymore. It's a business and everything, and I learned that four years ago. So yeah, it's not my first time. I'm just excited that I'm healthy going into this offseason. That's the only positive. Obviously you want to be playing, but healthy, ready to improve this summer. I mean, we played a lot of hockey the past three years. It's the longest summer we've had in three years, so use this extra time to lick our wounds, maybe go back to LA for a little bit, get some sun there. I haven't had that since four years ago. So yeah, it's definitely bittersweet, but lots to be excited about and it's gonna be good." #TexasHockey
