The RBRA will be at this year’s Watton church fete. Come along and hear why we need volunteers to tackle invasive weeds on the river, and see close up some of the fascinating bugs and fish that we find in our monthly Riverfly samples along the river. Something for all ages.

Large areas of Invasive Himalayan Balsam are found in a couple of sites on the River Beane. We’ll be running volunteer sessions in a few weeks time to tackle these – watch out for more details soon! #INNSweek riverbeane.org.uk

Sewage dumped into 31 of London's rivers for 7,000 hours last year. The grim reality of government's sewage policy laid bare. standard.co.uk/news/london/s…

What a contrast. Paris spends €1bn to clean up the Seine so people can go swimming in it while last year alone @thameswater spent 7,000 hours dumping sewage into 31 of London's rivers all of which ends up in the Thames. Ho hum.
Beyond the doom and gloom, great to see le Parisien splashing on swimming in the Seine today. More than €1billion spent on making it happen.

These two brook lamprey were an exciting discovery during a recent water vole survey on the Beane. You can see them piling up stones to lay their eggs.

‘Reclusive, primitive and eel-like, the brook lamprey is an ancient and rarely seen fish found in the rivers and streams of several of our woods.

It lives most of its life as a larva buried in the silty stream bed before turning into an adult and swimming up stream to spawn - its last act before it dies.’ from the Woodland Trust.

💚 It's #ValentinesDay & we want to #ShowTheLove for the things we want to protect from the impacts of climate change. In Hertfordshire we have over 10% of the world's chalk streams - as rare & vital as rainforests, supporting some of our most endangered species. @TheCCoalition

The River Chess is a chalk stream 1 of only 225 in the entire world and this is how water companies treat them. And the @EnvAgency does what exactly?
This is Scotsbridge Mill on the ⁦@RiverChess⁩ foam here as well and we are 24hr it’s into this incident. Still no answers ⁦@thameswater

We remain deeply concerned about the state of the nation's rivers. The @EnvAgency needs the financial tools to do the job, but as @BylineTimes reported last month, its budget has been reduced to such an extent it can no longer effectively respond to the challenges.
