Maybe I'm missing something here. If most Google searches just return an AI summary of info pulled from websites without sending users to those sites then how will the sites survive and continue to generate new content?
Google announces it will now prioritize AI-generated answers in search results over human-written website articles • Search will be centered around a reimagined ā€˜intelligent search box’ • Starts next Tuesday (via @TechCrunch)

Even though this is kind of inconvenient for devs I think it’s probably the right move. My issue though is that if Shopify cares about trust in the ecosystem they should be prioritizing policy enforcement on the app store way above things like this.
Trust in our ecosystem is built on the boring stuff being right. For years, public apps on Shopify could hold offline access tokens that never expired. If one leaked, it stayed valid forever. We’re changing that. Starting January 1, 2027, all apps in the App Store will need to use expiring offline access tokens. This change will help us keep merchant data secure and help app developers maintain merchant trust. More details on the shopify.dev changelog: shopify.dev/changelog/expiri…

Last week I received an email out of the blue from Shopify that my external marketing site didn’t list one of my more recent pricing plans, so my app would be demoted then delisted if not fixed by the end of the month. How are they able to stay on top of checking pricing pages on external sites (which apps aren’t even required to have), but somehow they can’t catch things like this?
How to get rich in Shopify App Store in 6 months: 1. Create a single-feature free Shopify app (feel free to copy some popular app). 2. Use only keywords for your app name, no branding. 3. Farm reviews in the most shady way possible (see attached screenshot for inspiration). 4. Get the Built for Shopify badge somehow anyway. 5. Once the app reaches the top of the rankings, introduce pricing. 6. If executed correctly, $10K MRR is bare minimum. Apparently the worst thing that could happen, app gets delisted for couple of weeks and you're told to get rid of these tactics, but by that time you will probably have hundreds of 5-star reviews and great ranking in the App Store which gets you organic growth and you can work it from there. This company has been doing this among all of their 8 apps since February and their reviews/rankings skyrocketed. I'm pretty sure they're getting thousands of installs every month now. They already rank #1 for some keywords so I'm sure monetization is just around the corner šŸ˜… @ShopifyDevs @liam_at_shopify @atleeclark I think it's becoming very clear that we need much stricter policies, especially with hundreds new apps published every week. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Possibly the most blatant ripoff of one of my apps that I've seen so far. They only changed a single letter in the name, copied the pricing plans almost exactly, and changed some phrasing in the description but copied most of my structure.

I’ve seen a lot of talk about the 700 new Shopify apps approved this week. I dug into the list a little and found one developer with 6 apps all published between May 4th-8th. They had no apps published prior to this and all 6 are very obviously AI slop. Between all of these apps I would estimate they’ll only ever get at most maybe a dozen or so installs and probably zero reviews, so I wouldn’t worry about them from a competition standpoint. But I do think that allowing developers to publish 6 new apps in a 4 day span is not good for the health of the app store and dev community. I think some kind limit on the frequency of new app submissions would be quite reasonable.

Merchant misread ā€œUltimateā€ as ā€œUnlimitedā€ for the plan name so they threatened a negative review unless I compensated them for their mistake. How do other devs handle this?

I’ve had a ton of these coming in lately. It’s one of the new review system changes that I do agree makes sense to cut down on fraud. Just frustrating though knowing it could take 3 months for them to convert to full priced plans (if they do at all).

Does anyone have experience dealing with a single user destroying their LCP score? This one user is accessing my app daily and consistently has LCP scores in the 10 second range while all other users are around 1 second or less. They're a paid user so I'm not sure what to do.

Checked my performance insights today and learned that throughout the weekend I had a user loading my app dozens of times per day from a VPN set to various random locations all over the globe. Completely destroyed my LCP score. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

I’m curious how the Shopify review crackdown will affect fake pay for review operations like this that my app support email gets spammed with every day. I have no idea if these people actually have real active stores that they post reviews from, but if they do then they could potentially evade the new filters more easily than many legitimate reviews. Will unscrupulous developers be more tempted than ever by scams like this?

My app lost another 15% of its total reviews today after losing over half during the last review purge. I support cleaning up the review system, but I feel like we need more clarity on the current policies. These reviews represent hundreds of hours of hard work that are now gone.

How is everyone handling collecting reviews in light of the recent changes? Apparently reviews mentioning support are generally not being published anymore. Are you just relying on the new in-app review modal or still focusing on support interaction review requests?

Does anyone have any numbers they can share on Shopify app review rates for the new embedded review modal vs the old way of just sharing the link?

I find this unhelpful because: 1) It penalizes veteran apps that have outlived some of their merchants. Should a review be archived from a merchant who used an app for 4 years before going out of business? 2) A subset of merchants are seasonal, only opening their stores for the summer, or more often the holiday shopping season. Are their reviews not valid in other months of the year?

Why are so many Shopify devs not translating their apps/listings? Nearly 30% of my users come from countries that aren't covered by the listing auto translation languages.
