Remember that most of the political journalists asking @Keir_Starmer questions at his press conference on the social media ban for under-16s are the same ones who failed to ask the right questions at Downing Stteet press conferences for 18 months during lockdowns. Why? Because they supported the lockdowns so they didn't bother questioning the evidence or the cost-benefit analysis. They largely back the social media ban so they won't do their job today either.

This government is prioritising Net Zero and ever-rising welfare spending over the defence of our country. Completely absurd. 🫣

Defence Secretary resigns from government. Makes clear that this is a government that would sooner spend money on benefits and immigrants than the defence of the realm.

After the horrific attempted beheading in Belfast, Labour’s answer is to amend the Online Safety Act and force social media platforms to remove content faster during ā€œtimes of crisisā€. Not fix the border. Not answer the public. Not restore trust. But instead censor the reaction. They do not want answers, they want total control.

Rachel Reeves says debt is coming down. Reality: up nearly Ā£1 trillion this Parliament. No crisis to blame. No excuse. This is a choice. It’s Labour’s choice.

Britain will over the coming months endure the biggest rise in unemployment of any major advanced economy. That was the conclusion of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) last week, when it warned that UK joblessness will soar from 4.8pc last year to 5.5pc by the end of 2026. When Labour took office in July 2024, unemployment was just 4.1pc. But the number of payrolled employees has since fallen in fourteen of the twenty-one subsequent months to April – with around 1.81 million now unemployed. It is unusual, when the population is rising, for the number of payrolled jobs across the economy to fall. But that pattern has been broken under Labour. 🧵1/8

The question is: what made Rachel Reeves think she could safely ignore the warnings of the UK’s top 100 employers back when they wrote to her and warned this would happen if she followed through with her savage employment tax and wage hike policies? Or did she not care?

Total welfare payments are now projected to rise to Ā£389 billion by the end of the parliament. I don’t believe hardworking taxpayers should carry the financial burden for people who are capable of working but simply choose not to. Basic fairness
