Thanks @JohnTizard for the kind words! Be assured the new guise will stir the pot as always…. Need a fundamental overhaul in the way Birmingham is governed…..

Rob, your service to Sutton and Birmingham, and the Labour Party has been superb. You are owed a big thank you. I enjoyed working with you. I will be interested in learning what your new guise will be. I expect it will build on your many years of public and political service.

Nigel Farage's latest Substack shows he's just a race-baiter in a Barbour jacket. Sowing division is not patriotic in the slightest.

Local Community Investment Districts could be the way to take this forward Majid. Should be top priority for BCC and West Mids Mayor, it’s a key plank in Labour Government’s local growth plans!
Really positive to see this focus on the night time economy and the optimism around the sector. Reading through the report though, I couldn’t really see much about how inner city neighbourhoods and local high streets will benefit not just city centres. There’s a huge night-time economy around snooker clubs, shisha lounges, chai places, dessert parlours, restaurants and takeaways that keep communities active late into the evening, create jobs and provide important social spaces. Will support and investment also reach those areas, or mainly traditional city centre nightlife?

With all due respect @dgbailey the voters made it very clear on whether Labour should continue being part of City Executive. Not easy to swallow but Labour has been big enough to swallow it & not try to cling on to straws of power. Scrutiny would be the best constructive role.
Rubbish. @brumlabour didn’t have the balls to stand up to Starmer & the NEC so refused to take part in coalition talks. You abdicated your responsibility to the city. And have been left with nothing.

By surrendering all Scrutiny posts to the Conservatives it’s now clear @Bobby_Alden will be pulling the strings of the so called left wing coalition! Be warned @rogerbhx you will be swallowed up….
ICYMI I live blogged the events of the #bcclive @BhamCityCouncil leadership election last night. Here’s my overnight round up of all that happened - including the shock Reform vote and the “grubby deal” anger over scrutiny roles. birminghammail.co.uk/news/mi…

Paul is dead right that Birmingham needs a new governance model much more radical than a network of Town Councils. A full scale break up is certainly an option but there are downsides to this and other options available. Which is why new City leadership should open up the debate.
Our separately funded town council is a lame duck, we pay £2.5m into it and get hardly anything back out of it. Any area can create a parish council like Sutton did. But Birmingham needs breaking up into smaller authorities. Remember Sutton and Edgbaston subsidise most of Bham

Too early to say Birmingham Council is ungovernable. But definitely needs to be a fundamental & urgent overhaul in the way it’s governed. Including a huge shift towards localisation. Whoever ends up running the Council could bring all political Groups together to consider this…

Whether Harmer or Pritchard takes leader seat is actually irrelevant - either will be impotent without the other plus a confidence and supply deal with others. It’s a bit rich for those not prepared to offer any alternative to bitch from sidelines tbh.
