You are wrong @matthewsyed @TimesRadio - the Sudanese man whose hideous attack sparked this weeks racist riots in N Ireland was in the UK legally; we cannot “secure” the border between NI & Ireland for a multitude of v good reasons (common travel area/ Good Friday agreement etc etc) Genuinely surprised at your unchallenged false assertions. There was NO justification for the appalling racist attacks this week - including setting fire to people’s homes with children sleeping in their beds for no other reason than the colour of their skin.

Sunday morning is an opportunity to enjoy @EastLndonGroup’s post with “Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road”. This iconic painting by Cecil Osborne offers so much for the viewer. It demonstrates his artistic skill. Osborne takes us to his window to share his view of Farringdon Road.
It is #SundayMorning once again so, in the time-honoured manner, here's our traditional start to the day! This is "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" by Cecil Osborne from 1929. it is in the collection at Brighton & Hove Museums, where it is currently on display until 2027.

Sorry to hear your personal news Alan but delighted to see “Essex Farmhouse”. Do you know where this is in Essex?
Good evening, John @JohnTizard & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. Not been feeling my best today, hence the rather tardy response. Continuing your farming theme, here's "Essex Farmhouse" by Harold Steggles from 1933. #HaroldSteggles #Essex #EastLondonGroup

This is spot on from @antonioguterres Hate speech is dangerous. We must call it out wherever it occurs and whoever speaks or amplifies it.
Hate speech is a growing threat to peace & security. It divides communities, dehumanizes entire groups, and sets the stage for bloodshed. We must break this outrageous cycle through education, support for those targeted by abuse & stronger interventions by governments & technology companies.

We must stand up to racism and all racists, and adopt an anti-racist stance. Being non-racist is insufficient. Racism is sadly making too much ground and will spread like an awful cancer unless we oppose both it and its promoters. This is a civic duty.

The Boston Stump is a great landmark which can be seen from afar across the fenlands and the Boston skyline. I am told that it can be seen from Norfolk on a clear day. Walter Steggles’ painting shows how the 270 foot tower looms over the town as it has for many centuries.
Here's one that I haven't shown here for a very long time. This is "Boston" by Walter Steggles from 1932. I have also included Wally's preparatory sketch for the piece. The painting is in the collection at the Usher Gallery. #WalterSteggles #EastlondonGroup #Boston #Loncolnshire

Good morning, Alan. I am later than usual in seeing your Saturday morning post. I have been to the local Shefford farmers’ and community market. As ever, there are some great stalls. Now home and able to enjoy the post with Brynhild Parker’s “Interior” before going to Bedford.
Another #SaturdayMorning has arrived so here's our traditional start to the day & week-end. This is "Interior" by Brynhild Parker from 1930. Interestingly, it was one of two paintings that she exhibited that year with the same title! #BrynhildParker #EastLondonGroup

Among the flags that the Reform mayor of Calderdale has decided to stop flying is the flag for white ribbon day on to commemorate victims of male violence against women. White Ribbon UK are a charity founded in Calderdale who encourage men to stand against male violence against women. Around 2 women a week are killed by their partners. So I would ask councillor Andrew Tagg to consider the decision not to support Calderdale’s women again. halifaxcourier.co.uk/news/po…

I am looking forward to reading @carolineslocock’s new book “Bad Government”.
Govt without a plan becomes a series of speeches and announcements without follow through. It's not just Starmer's No 10 that has been too focused on media grid and focus group government, campaigning rather than governing, but people's patience has now worn thin #BadGovernment

I spoke to Andy Collins, @Andyshowbiz at @BBC3CR this morning about the unacceptable increase in domestic abuse during tournaments like the World Cup. We all have a duty to protect victims. The police will act but we must report crimes, support victims and call out misogyny.
