Just completed AHRC funded PhD @unibirmingham in rape in children's books of Greek myth. Communications Officer in development research @dlprog. Writes sci-fi.
Happy Roman Lupercalia to all!
What with its feasting, whipping and smearing your face with blood, this is indeed a more interesting festival than Valentine's Day.

Where are the grassroots women in Sri Lankan politics?
Super excited to have this podcast on a @DLProg research project out. Hosted by @PetraAlderman .
Why are there so few women from non-elite backgrounds in Sri Lankan politics? What barriers do they face on their pathways to politics? And what can be done to support them? Check out this podcast from DLP researchers:

Interesting talk on fossil fuel subsidies. In spite of their wastefulness & propping up climate change, it's difficult for countries worldwide to remove them. We need a political message that *convincingly* tells everyone what they'll gain with the money saved.
Important piece on how to genuinely support local leadership - international actors are not "star players" and are there to support not manage locally led change processes.

Thank you to all who joined us today - what a great discussion (mind still blown by the insightful comments re community, colonialism and office romance -which I never expected to write in the same sentence!)! @CharlotteIre@RobinDiver22@prof_romance @CarlyBResearch
Great to rejoin @Romance_UOB today for a discussion of Love Actually - the controversies, appeal, idea of it as a "romance for men", visual portrayal of women & the impact of romance being set within communities.
From conspiracy theories to not acting on climate emergency, why is it so hard to create change?
This @fp2p blog reports fascinating research on why we don't like changing & how to combat this.
Answer: It's all about networks, conversations & social proof:

Enjoyed @PetraAlderman 's report launch on single-use plastic bans around the globe.
Particularly interesting discussion about how the use of plastic bags, straws etc becomes ingrained so fast in spite of being relatively recent!
Happening now!
Join us as we explore the role parliaments can play in protecting the environment and tackling issues such as single use plastic.

Pivoting to prioritise streets for people and bikes is the smart path to a better future. We need healthier, cheaper and more social transport. Bikes and electric bikes are critical to achieving this, let's get on with it. The faster we change, the sooner we benefit #BikeIsBest
I’m teaching at @iddbirmingham this week on accountability and how citizens can make states work better. Good timing for a case study on #ClimateJustice…
Reducing inequalities and tackling the #ClimateCrisis are two sides of the same coin.
I wrote an article about Medusa & her relationship with Athena in modern children's books. They tend to depict a world where women have to compete over who's hotter, & Athena punishes Medusa because she's jealous of her looks: 👇
