Meet Bunty, brand new #StetPet editorial assistant of ON editor @RobinMarwick. "This is Bunty, and although she’s not very good at stetting yet (she’s only 3 months old), she’s delighted [to be a #StetPet]!"

Update: there are now 305 publications/organizations/news channels listed. I added a column for people to describe the nature of the assignment and there's still a column for any higher up at the outlet to comment on their practices. docs.google.com/spreadsheets…

Love this. There’s a glancing reference to data quality in my #BadGraphs talk but not enough time to go into detail — this perfectly illustrates why it’s important!
Chihuahua syndrome: messy data from variations in spelling or input. The name The chihuahua syndrome is from @EdwardTufte in his new book Seeing with Fresh Eyes, based on an anecdote from Chris Groskopf @onxyfish

This is a graph so bad I’m not even sure I can fit it into my #BadGraphs talk, I’d need to change the y-axis. (Thread. 🧵)

Sinéad O'Connor was brilliant, smart and courageous as fuck. I hope she’s remembered for her sense of humour, too. Here she is attending an anti-Sinéad O'Connor demonstration in disguise. Truly one of a kind 🖤

It's all completely horrible but the mass email thing is especially sticking with me because what the fuck. Mass emails aren't for things like TELLING PEOPLE THEIR IMPRINT IS DEAD NOW
I am so furious about the @InkyardPress situation. The poor team over there! My poor clients! What a casually cruel way to handle this. A mass email?! Did we not learn our lesson about mass emails?!?! I don’t know where to even put how ragey I am right now.

Definitely! I’m always hoping to see someone I know, plus I’d love to be there myself someday. (I have been in a couple of journal article acknowledgements, which is always super exciting.)

Historians! Does anyone have access to Vatican records that show who had an audience with the Pope on 12 April 1771 ??? My grandmother has fully translated a Grand Tour manuscript diary written in French by an English aristocrat - it’s the only way to identify the author!

The literary detective work we posted about yesterday got far more interest than anything we post about our books. Maybe we need to launch a spinoff business, like an escape room where we don't let you out until you've unraveled some complicated publishing rights situation.
