My personal blog, and its first post, are fully finished! I tried to keep a minimalistic retro look. I think it looks pretty cool :) rowobin.dev

i feel like stalking me would be very boring. i spend 99% of my time at 3 different places and i do the same thing in all 3 places: coding.

"the art of doing science and engineering" might actually be the book of all time. this should become mandatory reading for engineering students.

the anthropic situation is why i basically only use local models. can't trust big corportations sadly.

this is like when a league champion's play rate spikes right before a rework and people use those numbers to argue the champion was popular. these numbers don't mean there are 160k people wanting to play destiny. these numbers mean there are 160k experiencing fomo,
Destiny 2 reaches 167,000 concurrent players on Steam for its final update, completely obliterating Marathon, the game is now also the global top seller Destiny is getting double the players Marathon had on launch day. Sony keeps taking bad decisions and not listening to true Bungie fans. Marathon will be dead in some months.

considering moving my blog and future repositories to codeberg. supporting an open-source nonprofit sounds better than using a microslop owned product.

a master's degree is supposed to mean you contributed in some novel way to your field of study in real life, it very often means you decided to spent 2 extra years doing nothing instead of working :/
"A Master's degree isn't the job guarantee it used to be," per WSJ.

i really don't see the appeal of a "gpu-only" machine. gpus work great as dedicated hardware for when you need to run parallel code at very high speeds. wasting gpu capacity on routine os operations seems like a total waste.
Usually I would expect this to be lame. But the first thing that jumps to my mind when I see this is, "A PC that boots straight to the GPU and has no CPU." Which I would be totally there for. x.com/inkblotPrincess/status…

just spent 50 minutes in a call where we were testing this. it was a loop of shit breaking and him saying "this doesnt work... i dont understand why?" my brother in christ. you implemented this system from scratch yourself. read your own code.
senior dev at my team spent 2 weeks vibe coding a unity multiplayer template project. it's broken and barely works. he doesnt understand any of it. he has 20 years of experience. he earns 3x my salary.

I've heard good things about SDL1. If I wasn't focusing on modern tech right now, I would play around with it more.
Everyone's too busy forcing UE5 to look like a 1998 engine. What they could do instead is just make 1998 engines, which were routinely created by teams of 1-2 people. Use OpenGL 1.2, people, it's still available, and your games will run at 5 trillion FPS while looking authentic.
