Adreach Alex 10k to leave lasting legacy for community of Alexandra.
Johannesburg, 05 December 2024: After joining hands with Run Alex Athletics Club in 2023 in a three-year partnership that would see Adreach Group as the title sponsor for the Adreach Alex 10k, Adreach Group is inviting other corporates to join hands with them and leave a lasting legacy in the community of Alexandra. Together with Run Alex AC, they have identified the need to build a community gym and start a school holidays programme.
Corporates can make donations towards the building of the gym or towards a school holidays programme that will focus on different educational and sporting activities during school holidays. Individual participants can also support these legacy projects by choosing to donate when registering for the race.
“As a sponsor we are so proud of how far this race has come and are excited to see its growth in 2025. Ensuring the upliftment of the Alexandra community has always been a priority for our business and seeing how the proceeds of the race allow for this to happen is extremely rewarding. We are focusing on a legacy project for the next couple of years that will have longevity in the community, and so encourage all to come experience Alex on foot and be a part of this great event.” Zuza Mbatha, CEO of Adreach Group, said.
The company’s board chairman, Pasty Malefo said: "Supporting the development of the Alexandra community has always been a key priority for our business, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see the race proceeds contribute to this cause. We have always been committed to projects that will have a positive impact on the lives of the individuals in the community, and we are excited for our next legacy project which will offer longevity. As the platinum sponsor for the Adreach Alex 10K, we are incredibly proud of the progress this race has made and are looking forward to witnessing its continued growth in 2025, so we encourage everyone to join us as we take to the streets of Alex on race day.”
The first edition of the Adreach Alex 10k, was sold out with 1 400 people exploring the streets of Alex on foot.
The race will move to a bigger venue in 2025, with the City of Joburg coming on board as an official partner. As a result of the partnership, the city will make the Altrec Sports Ground available for the race. The new venue boasts a cricket oval and two (2) soccer fields, providing sufficient space to accommodate the 2 000 participants expected to participate. The city will also have a few key departments working closely with the race to ensure a delivery of a successful event.
The event also welcomes Gautrain as the Official Transport Partner, for the next three years. A complimentary Gautrain Midibus Service will be available for registered participants, between Marlboro Station and the start venue. Participants can beat the race day traffic hassle by taking the Gautrain train from any station to Marlboro Station which is only 2km away from the race venue. Standard Gautrain train and parking fares will apply.
“Our commitment to ensuring that the people of Gauteng travel with ease to various destinations and events on our route is strongly demonstrated with this partnership. The Gautrain provides a safe and efficient public transport service, not only for work, business and school, but also for large-scale social, sport and lifestyle events in Gauteng” Tshepo Kgobe, Gautrain Management Agency CEO, said.
Mokakatla Masekela, Chairperson Run Alex Athletics Club, said: “We have always looked to find ways to change the outlook on Alexandra township. Hosting a race was a way to bring change to Alex. The new initiatives linked to the race are part of our vision to move this historic township to the next level. Access to a gym is something one can take for granted, but it will be a big contribution to our community.
