There is a concept known as “thin places”, where it is said that the veil between this world and the next is thin. You can sense the numinous around you, even if you cannot describe it. Where have you been that felt ‘thin’?

The numbers written on the streets of Yuen Long show that no matter how the government tries to rewrite the narrative, people remember this day as a stain on the city's history.

As many people have noted, Cantonese is a thriving language, subway announcements are in English, Mandarin AND Cantonese in Hong Kong, and this is an extremely strange way to measure the significance of a language in any city. But let me make one more point... (1/1)

Very rough translation of《我們的時代》"Our Time" (or "Our Era"), a short story with dystopian undertones that the Hong Kong national security police demanded be taken down from the @gongjyuhok site.

I definitely liked 'This War of Mine' and the narrative it constructed. Video games do have a role in public history. But this "refugee camp building and management game" reeeally doesn't seem like it would have the nuance and sensitivity that one would hope.

A German internee was paroled to check into a hospital for health reasons. Later, his Eurasian wife sneaks him out of the colony. And hk colonial officials really did sugarcoat this event by listing the incident under the 'permitted to leave the colony' heading 😆

Singapore's database of old newspapers is so smooth and easy to use. Not like Hong Kong's old newspaper database, which is clunky and slow (and probably underfunded).
