Today I learned that the work of Jane Addams - a Nobel Prize-winning sociologist - was derided for being too quantitative - and thus *too feminine* (!)
In the interwar period, *qualitative* methods were the hallmark of "real", masculine sociology (ref. Kristin Luker 2008)
