Yesterday I finished my first external placement in mainstream community pediatrics. I enjoyed it so much more than I expected and can really see myself working in that role, which is a lovely way to feel at the end of placement!
Developmental Language Disorder is a hidden condition. DLD can be missed as not all young people with DLD have speech problems. Let’s raise the profile of DLD so more young people can be recognised and supported. Thank you Siouxsie for illustrating this in your art! #DLDday
I spent a week in Lourdes this week with @hcpt supporting children with a range of needs. Throughout the week I watched a non-verbal child learn how to tell us what his favourite ice cream flavour is and watched another child with severe CAS do a solo of 'twinkle twinkle'
Seeing this progress (amongst a whole load of other examples) and then witnessing the parents' reactions when they saw what their children had learnt solidified my passion for this field and made me so excited for my future career
It also taught me that SLT doesn't need to happen in a formal setting, communication is all around us and everyone deserves to be able to communicate no matter their abilities or disabilities #mysltday
Would definitely recommend this documentary, it was an emotional watch but it's so refreshing to see a wider range of autistic experiences being represented bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0bbnh4…
It was an honour to be welcomed to the HCPC offices, I had the opportunity to meet lots of council members and receive my competition prize. Thank you @The_HCPC for the opportunity!
We’re delighted to announce the winner and runners-up of the first ever HCPC Student Competition! A huge thank-you to everyone who submitted an entry.
Congratulations to Vicky Marriott from @UniofNewcastle@SLSncl who is this year’s winner. Well done Vicky! 🎉🎉🎉

📣SLT Twitter: I’m having to take some time out of my Masters to focus on my health. Does anyone have any recommendations of what I can do in this time to stay engaged in SLT and use my time productively whilst I’m off?

This is a really helpful thread, thank you Kate and May! In a profession where we spend so long thinking about how best to suit the needs of our clients, it’s easy to forget about our own needs and the needs of our colleagues!
Kate and May are two neurodivergent speech and language therapists who work together and, this #neurodiversitycelebrationweek, have put together these fantastic 10 #TopTips for working with and supporting #neurodivergent (#ND) #SLT professionals. (Thread)
Alongside my degree I work as an online tutor. Today I was covering a group of 3 students who had typically “female” names. I wanted to wish them a happy international women’s day at the end of our lesson but before I did, I checked that they all identified as female
These small actions set a precedent for young people, it shows them that they are respected by their educators and provides them with a model of how to respect others. I’m a big believer in leading by example and I hope I was able to do that successfully today.
