Uhura overhears Spock humming on the bridge. Unwilling to admit he enjoyed the improbability field, he claims to be studying the mathematical properties of vocal song.
Later, she tries to discuss a recent article in the Federation Jrnl of Musical Science, which Spock hasn’t read.

Uhura didn’t know that he hadn’t actually been researching music at the time, but everyone in the Captain’s Mess figures it out pretty quickly when Spock tries to make an excuse for not having done a literature review.

Spock makes a noise no one has ever heard from him before when he sees Pike's communicator PIN, 0000.
