Purple Line crews will begin Live Wire testing of light rail tracks and systems with a Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) between the Lyttonsville Operations and Maintenance Facility and Bethesda Station.

Hopefully this can be done in a way that’s not too disruptive but gets the message across and changes behavior. Clear messaging about how and why to pay are also important.
Metro says since Sunday, May 24 they have given out 740 bus fare evasion tickets and have made 46 arrests as part of a crackdown on Metrobus. In some cases officers are going onto buses and pulling people off who were seen on security camera evading the fare elsewhere. #wmata

The Capital Crescent Trail is a real gem! Great fuel to everyone who made it happen before my time!
On this day in 1996 - The Arizona Avenue Trestle officially opened for use as part of the Capital Crescent Trail, creating for the first time a complete trail from Bethesda to Georgetown. It marked the completion of the DC portion of the trail.

Very interesting, since a few years ago RideOn was really pushing this service. IMO microtransit is mostly a fad, so I hope this means we will avoid wasting too much money…

The western branch of the Red Line will have an extended shutdown this summer for Purple Line construction. Two months compared to three for the shutdown in Silver Spring two years ago.

Washington-Baltimore when Amtrak runs express. 32 minutes averaging 76 mph. The new tunnel should speed this up quite a bit as the slowest parts leaving Washington and entering Baltimore.

Biking to MARC is super convenient! Someone should post the good places to take MARC for bike rides outside of Washington and Baltimore.

Import to note for DC that Metro ridership really surged last year, so small YoY gains are still good.
Q1 2026 transit data is in today, & all major US rail networks are growing! SF is seeing a real boom, with ridership up 19% on Muni and 15% on BART
SEPTA (Philly, 11%) and PATH (NY/NJ, 6.8%) are also seeing strong growth, while MTS (San Diego, 0.5%) is the slowest🧵
