A nickname for a @RoyalNavy sailor is a matelot. The word originates from several languages’ word for comrade. It’s as fitting today as it was then, all are welcome. It’s also obviously linked to mate, used as a friend or even rank in the past but best used as part of Shipmate!
Over the centuries the RN has used many logos, the current one being the Ensign version. Until recently it used the naval crown, which was never traditionally British dating back to the Romans. Probably the most prolific is the foul anchor in all RN headgear badges & buttons.

Pt. 2/2 "D-Day, the 6th of June
Many brave souls did go
Across the English Channel
By boat on sea
Planes in skies above
To a place if France
Normandy it was
On beaches of sand
Utah, Omaha, Gold
Juno and Sword too..."
