If you are looking for (another) person to pull for at Q-school.
Marcus Plunkett is 30 years old. And came from a very non-traditional golf program. That in itself wouldn't be that unusual. Except Plunkett went to West Point.
Was an all-conference player there, but also trained to be a soldier. After graduation did his five-year Army commitment in the Army, including deployment to Afghanistan.
After getting out of the Army in 2021 he emailed Tommy Biershenk, a well known coach in the South and said he wanted to play pro golf.
Just talked with Tommy, he said he laughed at the email. Agreed to meet him and "give him a little piece of reality about pro golf."
"25 balls in, I was blown away" Biershenk said. The pair continued to work together. This year Plunkett won the money title on the Dakotas Tour. And made it through the first two stages of Q-school.
He heads into the third round T15. The 6 foot 5 Army veteran is just three strokes outside of a PGA Tour card.
A 30-year-old West Point grad, is one of the many stories that make Q-school.
