How much is all the effort worth using this hellhole of a platform to spread your research: Tweeting your research paper boosts engagement but not citations nature.com/articles/d41586-0…
Research highlight: @jazzy_yup, @S_Emming & Prof Kate Schroder @inflammasomelab comment on work from Zhang et al. providing key insight into regulatory mechanisms governing NLRP1 activation and potential for structure-based anti-inflammatory drug design bit.ly/47ufFyl
Excited & delighted to share our latest work on human macrophages in COVID-19 @scisignal. Macrophages are key players in COVID-19, so we asked the crucial questions 1) does SARS-CoV-2 need ACE2 to replicate in macrophages 2) does ACE2 enable macrophage cytokine responses?🧵
How does #SARSCoV2 infect #macrophages? A study from Schroder (@inflammasomelab), @LarisaLabzin, and co. shows the virus enters both ACE2-expressing and -deficient macrophages, but replicates and triggers antiviral responses only in ACE2-expressing cells. scim.ag/2o2
It's a harsh & disappointing reality that is painted for early to mid-career researchers (EMCRs) in the new report just published: 2021 Early to Mid-Career Researchers Grant Opportunity Outcomes. Check out these stats: 428 grants applications from EMCRs, & 23 awarded funds.🧵1/3
Happy 1/364 men's day 🥳
You can tweet all you want about #EmbraceEquity and #CrackingTheCode on the 8th March. If you don't start to hire more women into leadership positions during the rest of the year, it's just a nice token and a big portion of "Gratismut".
A PhD project available is in the Sweet lab to investigate the role of mitochondria and lipid droplets in innate immunity and host defence. More info at: ow.ly/vlhQ50N4bo0 (applications close Monday 13th March). RT appreciated! @IMBatUQ@UQ_News
The nominations for the 2023 Tall Poppy Science Awards are now OPEN! @aipolsci

With inexperienced drivers back on the road near @UQ_News it’s a timely reminder- cyclists on Sir Fred Schonell drive need a 1.5 METER clearance*. this means you need to change lanes. I just saw another young cyclist clipped with a rear view mirror & knocked onto the footpath.
Delighted to share our latest preprint on caspase activation within #inflammasomes. Unlike its murine counterpart caspase-11, human caspase-4 dimerisation and D289 auto-processing elicits an IL-1β converting enzyme. @ASImmunology@IMBatUQbiorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
NEW: Elon Musk has sent another email to Twitter engineers warning them about code reviews. “All managers are expected to write a meaningful amount of software themselves. Being unable to do so is like a cavalry captain who can’t ride a horse.”
