Read this exciting work from the @KristyWelshhans lab led by @manasiagrawal1. Very happy to have contributed to this story.
Using human and mouse models of Down syndrome, Agrawal et al. show that overexpression of the chromosome 21 gene DSCAM disrupts neuronal development and axon guidance, leading to altered neural connectivity and contributing to learning impairments. shorturl.at/dOkVJ

First major grant for the lab. Thank you, #NJCBIR, for believing in us. Now let's get back to the bench to get that work done :)

This review was a great opportunity to take a step back and appreciate the progress in iPSC-based models for neural repair. But can we truly model human neural repair? Excited to share our review that discusses how far we’ve come in the field while highlighting what’s missing!
There is a current push towards doing biological research using only hiPSC models, but are we there yet? @manasiagrawal1 nicely discusses it in this review using neural repair as a model system. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

How many axon localization elements are in one mRNA? mTor mRNA seems to have at least 3. Read this interesting preprint from the Fainzilber lab. Multiple mTOR RNA localization signals regulate subcellular protein synthesis and axonal growth biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Our methods paper is now online. It was co-led by Shruti Ghumra and @manasiagrawal1. If you are struggling with enriched axonal preparations, you may find this paper useful! JoVE jove.com/t/69601

Thrilled to share our new work in Nature Neuroscience! Together with amazing collaborators and led by Ariel Ionescu, we discovered that muscle-derived miR-126 controls local axonal TDP-43 synthesis and protects neuromuscular junctions in ALS. nature.com/articles/s41593-0…
