In 1993, Lee Kun-hee told his executives Samsung was making mediocre products and that needed to stop and he wasn't wrong.
What followed was a full rebuild. Manufacturing standards, design philosophy, global distribution. Samsung went from budget electronics to the world's largest chip and smartphone producer.
Net worth at peak: $20B . But the number undersells the impact. He didn't just build a company, rather he built a chunk of South Korea's economy with it.

Whats left to say about Elon? He didn't invest safely, taking $180M from the PayPal sale and putting it into electric cars and private rockets.
Both nearly went bankrupt in 2008. One became the most valuable car company on earth. One broke the government monopoly on space.
Elon took risks others simply weren't willing to, or didn't believe there was true value in the sectors he dived in to. And now, his SpaceX has the most historic IPO of all time.

Carlos Slim was the world's richest man from buying the infrastructure that an entire continent couldn't function without.
When Mexico privatised its state telecoms, he bought it cheap. Then charged everyone to use it. Simple, but veryy effective.
