Where will you stop, Prime Minister?
I’ve already returned over 24,000 people with no right to be here. And I won’t stop there.

This gives the faithful absolutely no information - as per. Whereas if there was no murder they'd be on the lookout for someone who's changing their behaviour.

If you want to finally understand the mythical class of ‘normal people’ (cf. Essex man, Mondeo man, motorway man, swing voters, middle England, Barratt Britain, Deano) that is the social base of modern conservatism &, paradoxically, also the base of the modern left, buy my book
🔑A NATION OF SHOPKEEPERS🔑 The new book from Dan Evans is out next week, January 10th. A title which explores the unstoppable rise of the petite-bourgeoisie, one of the most powerful, but under-explored, classes in modern society You can pre-order through the link in our bio✨

Replying to @dai_alectic
@dai_alectic hi Dan. I think the book is properly extraordinary. Our union Equity has been dealing with this for decades but I don't think has used the PB as a category as we've been so keen to get members to think of themselves as workers.

Our existence is typically as self-employed-unemployed until we get work at which point we become a worker in a theatre or on set. And then we (especially in a long running theatre show) become more similar to a traditional worker clocking in and producing a commodity 6 days/week

Anyway, I've just found the focus on the petty bourgeoisie as a category fascinating and illuminating, and am looking forward to the conclusions. Great work, very much appreciated.

Manchester theatre cancels show’s entire run ‘over Gaza and trans rights references’ The source of the dispute was a song in the play which referenced trans rights and contained the phrase “free Palestine”. Shameful. theguardian.com/uk-news/2024…

Incredible that this long into this brutal death march and with over 40k Palestinians dead, even more disabled and sick, that we’re still centering the “discomfort” of people who feel attacked by protests against the campaign. I get it’s the playbook but it’s embarrassing.
