"By the way, I'm following you because I have something to give you." A Year 5 to me last year: it was a note he'd written to say how he was feeling. But also me, to you, on Twitter. ⬇️⬇️⬇️👍👌 samrobertsspeaking.com/monke…

My other job is working with young people around their mindset. Below is a thread which might be useful if you look after a young person who is taking A-Level or GCSE exams in the next few weeks. These are tricky times and getting it right is crucial. 🧵⤵️

Working more and more with girls and young women who have been diagnosed with autism. Fascinating read.
reading this Uta Frith interview in TES. It's so important on the expansion of autism diagnoses to include almost anyone, many of whom would be better described as having social anxiety. This bit in particular on masking seems really insightful tes.com/magazine/teaching-le…

Been showing this to all my students. How she talks about and embraces neuroplasticity. How she refers to how powerful her mind is. And how yours is too.
Did not expect a question that starts out 'Do you think before you speak?' to go so well. A question from Charlotte Harpur A response from Eileen Gu.

✨🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ollie Watkins: “I swear on my life, my kid’s life, I said to Cole Palmer: we’re coming on today and you’re gonna set me up”. 27 goals and 13 assists for Aston Villa this season, his first chance at the Euros and… he scored.

Was great to visit @camrufc last night and speak to their players. To get the following feedback from @RichieWills10 was lovely. If you have a team, whatever sport, and are looking to align and understand how you can gain more control and clarity in performance, get in touch.

COURAGE AND THE NEED TO BE AFRAID Courage is on my mind a lot at the moment. I regularly speak to people who must find the courage to deal with their situation. All sorts of environments demand it. Courage will need summoning in your personal life, in your profession, in front of others and in private. But where does it come from? How do we get it? And once we have it, can we always rely on it? I have spent a while talking to different sportspeople about courage. For them, courage would seem a common currency, one oft-discussed and admired. But in pondering the whys and wherefores associated with courage, I find myself returning to two well-known values that you need at your foundation: trust and truth. Without these, courage doesn't flower. READ MORE ⤵ samrobertsspeaking.com/2024/…

He won’t crow about it but I will. @finlay_cummings is Woburn's Club Champion (Men’s). A brilliantly consistent 73 (Marquess’) & 71 (Duke’s) saw him claim the title by one shot. Just reward for a young man who works very hard on his game. #champion #mindset #consistency

A little story about behaviour, relationships, expectations and consequences: A while back, I taught a really tough Year 11 class. There weren't many of them in the room. Their attendance was sporadic. They hated science, and weren't doing very well. >

Giving young adults the chance to learn about a 'performance mindset' has huge advantages. They are a high-performing group, operating under 'performance stress' and they often struggle with anxiety and worry.

Gaining more control over their thoughts and mindset will give them a valuable edge in a competitive world. I am so excited about the potential we will unleash! #uniqueschool #performancemindset #communication #NewJob

I really enjoy working with @Day9Alex. When we met, he was putting a lot of pressure on himself to perform, game days were pretty stressful, and, as a result, he wasn't performing well. We talked about his motivations and how he felt on a matchday. He took on board some fundamental changes to the way he thought about his thinking, and we enjoyed undoing some of his previously held beliefs. He is an outstanding analyser and painfully honest with himself; an approach which reaped dividends. This season has seen him at his most effective and he has proved himself an invaluable captain of an outstanding Bedford Blues side. He has embraced fatherhood and is, now, in his own words, "enjoying life, rugby and being a dad". I'm very fortunate to have played a very tiny role in this transition. I am delighted Alex has signed on for another season at Goldington Road, having recently passed the 200 Championship appearances mark.

Last week, I... ... spent time with a client looking to develop his communication skills for a new job, with particular emphasis on a speech he has to give next month (we worked together on the content of the speech, as well).

Celebrate yourself and the work of those around you. Our brain can play tricks on us and sometimes only focuses on what we didn't do. It is equally important to produce a list of things you want to achieve this coming week.

But don't ever beat yourself up if you're trying to achieve things and don't quite make it. These processes are there for your benefit, not deficit.
