As a Garveyite in a colonial system, voting is not a "civic duty," but one of many tools for the organization of a historically oppressed people on the path to unity and nationhood. I espouse that goal with my non-party affiliation and employment at a Black-owned publication.

Timing of the report notwithstanding, curious as to whether this development would tip the scales either way. Those supporting @Janeese4DC and @kenyanmcduffie seem set. Maybe this is something to sway those who are undecided voters. @WashInformer

NOTE: @WarriorForWard1 addressed the controversy around her cash donations in my @WashInformer article earlier this week. Of course, OCF has a job to do but insular immigrant communities do deal in cash a lot, as Reyes Yanes noted. washingtoninformer.com/ward-…
Today, I am sharing a statement regarding a recommendation issued by the Office of Campaign Finance concerning our certification in the Fair Elections Program. I encourage residents, supporters, and members of the community to read the full statement below. #JackieForward1

NEW: Two factions of state committee candidates are competing for the future of @DCDemocrats. While the grassroots slate calls the establishment slate complacent, the establishment touts experience and temperance. My @WashInformer story explains. washingtoninformer.com/the-d…

Some context around what it would take to get D.C. Home Rule revoked from @ankitjaindc.
In-person early voting in DC's primary elections is now open! I want to address one argument I have heard to reassure Washingtonians that they can rank #1 whoever they like best without worrying that their candidate will “end Home Rule.” Why? A 🧵

Worth noting that Trump can't just revoke home rule. That takes an act of Congress, where GOP does not have filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. He can obviously flex power over DC in other ways, as we still see with the National Guard presence, and as we saw last summer

The framing of the question was very leading, with mention of @NYCMayor and socialism. That being said, @realDonaldTrump's response speaks to concerns that @kenyanmcduffie raised about a @Janeese4DC mayoralty.
Q: Here in Washington DC, there's a Democratic primary for mayor. One of the two leading candidates is running a Zohran Mamdani campaign focusing on socialist policies. How would you feel if she wins? TRUMP: Maybe we take back Washington and run it on a federal basis. We won't put up with it.

I'm tired of non-Black political operatives and campaign supporters conflating balanced journalism with "bias" toward or against a particular candidate. No one is or has been above scrutiny. Your candidate will get talked about. It's okay. We're the fourth estate for a reason.

I don't answer to anyone. Stand down, Kurt.
Deeply ironic timing of the Washington Informer article coming out the day folks started getting that Rashida mailer. Miguel and Rashida share the same values and vibes folks!

MY VIEW: Council chambers currently packed as the D.C. Council gears up for a Committee of the Whole meeting and subsequent first vote on the FY 2027 budget. Much to write about. Got two @WashInformer articles in the works to document this moment in time.

ANOTHER NOTE: @kenyanmcduffie challenged on the unfunding of his baby bonds legislation; @Janeese4DC pushes back on assertion that she signs on other CMs bills, calls childcare worker fund legislation her baby.

INTERESTING NOTE: @kenyanmcduffie dismissive of working to change Repubs. @Janeese4DC equally dismissive. Cites @RepJeffries as architect of a strategy to engage right-leaning Repubs. Both candidates also talk about using @DCAttorneyGen, @Janeese4DC more so.
