Every year it catches me by surprise, that visceral feeling of solidarity. The thump of the bass drum, the rallying cry of the trumpets, that lump in throat moment at #DurhamMinersGala.

Always love the #FolkShow with @themarkrad - so aligned with the seasons Listening while walking a newborn asleep, reflecting on change, migratory birds, new music, new chapters, the smell of the crisp fresh mornings air, the warmth of home… bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00235…

Absolutely love that @hopetowndarl features the famous conversation between George Stephenson & Edward Pease in 1821, when Stephenson persuaded Pease trains were the future. It is the inspiration of a new song coming out Friday: samslatcher.com/post/first-t… #Railway200 @railway200

The poisoning of the public discourse on Muslims, migrants and refugees has been consistent and deliberate. An anti Muslim agenda has been pursued by some in politics , the media and some think tanks and we have to be brave enough to call it out. They have created the climate that we now see play out in our towns and cities and they are as much to blame as the thugs on the street.

The wave of hate & misinformation we’re seeing in Britain right now is funded & fuelled by advertising. It’s advertising that has enabled some media to profit from inflammatory clickbait” stories targeting migrants: theneweuropean.co.uk/daily-m… /1

All that prodding, poking and scapegoating from the last gov’t, the hostile environment, the Rawanda plan, the violence of everyday language… and we’re surprised at the violence in our streets. You reap what you sow…

Sunderland is not the scene we saw last night, despite the intent of a few descending upon the city to stir up hatred. The #Sunderland I know is fully of decent people who look out for each other. We’re a bridge across the river, a sanctuary by the sea youtu.be/BjNb94UW8tQ?si=USak…

5 wonderful gigs across the North East for the Stories of Sanctuary summer tour. Just 1 workshop left to go, a recording session and then a book festival before I wind things down before the new baby arrives… …assuming she doesn’t come early 😅
Thank you to everyone who came and joined us on our Stories of Sanctuary ‘Our Home’ Tour! Have a look at the highlights from @riponcathedral, Sunderland Minster, @nclcathedral & @durhamfringe. The song is ‘Someday’ written & performed by Bushee, this year’s @RefugeeWeek anthem!

I have become slightly obsessed with @LNER’s Together #Pride livery and it seems to be following me this week. How could you not photograph it crossing Durham Viaduct and standing under the magnificent ‘Cathedral’ that is Newcastle Central (as @TheRestHistory aptly puts it!)

Surreal moment watching 2/3rds of the @theyoungunstrio perform their songs in the midst of a Stories of Sanctuary set, having seen them live many times! And then to join them for singing songs written together in community… Thank you for making last night incredibly special.
A really special night
