Corruption or Freedom. You Decide. Tonight I spoke before the Comal ISD Board of Trustees about transparency, public funds, and our First Amendment rights in the digital age. In September 2024, during a public board meeting that the district chose to livestream, my microphone was muted while I was reporting medical violations, retaliation, and whistleblower concerns involving approximately 75 students. That incident is now part of a federal First Amendment case. This is bigger than one meeting. When a government entity chooses to livestream a public meeting, that digital space becomes an extension of the town hall. If a microphone can be muted selectively in that space, then speech can be silenced not just for the person speaking but for every parent, taxpayer, and citizen watching from home. That affects you. That affects your children. That affects anyone who speaks up in front of their government. The district has hired a private law firm to defend its position in federal court. I filed a Public Information Act request to see how much public money is being spent on that defense. The response was an effort to seal the financial records again. This is no longer just about one speech. It is about transparency. It is about public accountability. It is about whether government can control the digital microphone. If you want to understand the full case, the legal filings, and how this could impact speech rights in the digital domain, you can read everything here: texanresilience.net/first-am… All documents are available. All arguments are explained in plain language. You do not have to agree with me. But you should understand what is being argued in your name and with your tax dollars. The modern town hall is digital. The question is whether the Constitution applies there. Corruption or freedom. You decide.

In this meeting, I spoke on Personal Courage and what it means to do what is right even when the consequences are severe. I described how my wife, a speech-language pathologist, refused pressure to alter medical documentation and then faced retaliation for reporting what happened. She was pushed out of her office, left to provide services in hallways and public spaces, and forced to choose between quitting, enduring continued harassment, or transferring just to keep her grievance alive.
