First #DARTMission results published today! I had the pleasure of an early preview so I could share with you on the Conversation: theconversation.com/new-resu…

New science results confirm our #DARTMission's asteroid deflection technology can be an effective way to change the orbit of an asteroid, should there ever be a threat. The DART spacecraft intentionally slammed into asteroid Dimorphos in Sept. 2022: go.nasa.gov/3YbKyBS

When can I get #ChatGPT to write #fireball trajectory analysis code? 🤣

#SAR2667 as seen from Perth, Australia. Interesting way to trigger remote observations, @haaadry 🤣.

We know so little about how our own Solar System came to be. Cameras from the Global Fireball Observatory in Alberta recorded the first rocky meteoroid ever from the Oort cloud, shedding some light on early formation. Fantastic video from the team here: youtu.be/X6KHS1AmMpw
A 2 kg rocky meteoroid observed in February 2021 is shown to be coming directly from the Oort cloud, indicative of a high ice/rock ratio there (1-20%) and supportive of a massive proto-asteroid belt scenario. Vida (@meteordoc) et al.: nature.com/articles/s41550-0…

Where did the last 10 years go? 7/12/12 I arrived in Perth, landed in the morning, turned up at Curtin University, and officially started my PhD (so I could start getting paid!) Now I'm managing the project I came here to build, and met some amazing people along the way. ❤️

Excited to see yet another fireball dataset plotted this way. Easy to spot those that are meteorites!
Interested in the science of meteorite recovery? Our recent paper in the Astrophysical Journal details how to determine outcome of meteor events! The math is exemplified with selected #FRIPON detections, featuring the case of the #Cavezzo #meteorite: iopscience.iop.org/article/1…

Pretty excited to have one of the few ARC #DP23 projects funded this year with @ProfAndyTomkins - "Expanding the Foundation of Planetary Science". Now we'll get to recover all those lonely meteorites who just want to tell their story of the early solar system.

Good luck finding pieces of this super special space rock ! Guess it didn't hit a roof or a person or we'd have found it already! I can imagine the excitement of finding it your own back yard though. Can't believe it was spotted before impact. What a beautiful fireball.

The story of the #Winchcombe meteorite is a fantastic demonstration of the power of collaboration in unravelling the mysteries of our Solar System. First paper out today: science.org/doi/10.1126/scia… ...and The Conversation article I wrote to summarise: tinyurl.com/44dzjjd4

What amazing times we live in. We were wowed tonight at the opening of @fugro's #SpAARC complex in downtown Perth. Soon to be running space command and remote operations on the moon! Showcasing once again Australia's world leading space capability. tinyurl.com/2p8vxjby

Once again, pointing out that blue sky research and the quest for new knowledge is the driver for real breakthroughs and #innovation. You can make things cheaper and more cost effective as much as you like, but can only push existing knowledge so far!

The team @CurtinSpaceSci got some fab shots of #LucyMission in return 😊🛰️ youtu.be/bPpobdSNnqM
Hello, beautiful! As the #LucyMission passed by Earth recently, it captured this look at our planet. The upper left of the image includes a view of Hadar, Ethiopia, home to the 3.2 million-year-old human ancestor fossil for which the spacecraft was named go.nasa.gov/3ssVDBf
