@SarahOpenSciEd @OpenSciEd session Great ideas for how to not let “grading get in the way of learning”. But support documenting our journey of sense making & finding ways to grade. Focus on notebooks, discussion & small writing assignments. Hearing from three different teachers.

While I can't have favorites, I love the way that Unit 6.6 gets at cells by thinking about how we heal and how we grow! I think that this unit would have been the biggest value-add when compared to how I used to teach these concepts. #NGSSchat openscied.org/instructional-…

Okay folks, our last question for tonight. This has been a blast! Q7: What is your favorite phenomenon or activity from the OpenSciEd Middle School units and why? #NGSSchat #MyOpenSciEdStory Not everyone will have an answer, which is totally ok!

A6: I LOVE seeing teachers from all over the WORLD collaborating and sharing resources and guidance in our Facebook Groups. They are so innovative and generous in how they share their expertise and ideas #NGSSchat openscied.org/facebook-group…

Q6: Our materials are #OER which means that people are free to share and adapt the materials for any purpose. - How have you benefited from the ability to freely share adaptations of resources? - Where do you go to find new ideas and share your innovations? #NGSSchat #GoOpen

My favorite thing the @OpenSciEd developers do is ASK the students. We ASK students what is interesting to them before we design the units. Then during the field test we give students exit tickets and ask them if what they did in class was interesting and meaningful. #NGSSchat

Q5*: How do you know if learning is meaningful to your students? And what does it mean to be meaningful? #NGSSchat *sorry, we cheated again

Beliefs address teachers' ideas and assumptions about how to teach specific content, how students learn the same content, and how HQIM provide productive ways to support student learning. More about this Element in @CarnegieCorp Challenge Paper #CurriculumPL @OpenSciEd

Just overheard my 6 year old playing a game in which the T-cells (cars) are being attacked by HIV (Xmas ornaments). Evidence of a pro-science house and more so of how much Brainpop he’s been watching instead of zoom class. #areyouontask?
