#2025Highlights 2️⃣ | Matobo, Zimbabwe 💧 Clean water is now within reach for drought-affected communities! Under the #StartReady project, 6 high-yielding boreholes were upgraded into solar-powered piped water systems, providing safe water to 270 households. “Before, our borehole would break down for days. Now we simply fetch water from the tap,” — Petty Moyo. Communities dug trenches, provided materials, and helped build the systems. Water point committees are now trained to manage repairs and collect small contributions for maintenance — ensuring sustainability. Plus, 6 more boreholes were repaired, restoring water for 500 households. Clean water. Community ownership. Long-term resilience.

2025 was a tough year for children, with funding constraints making the challenges even greater. Yet, we stood by children and their families, ensuring they survive, learn, and stay protected. To kickstart the new year, we’re sharing 12 top highlights — one representing each month — celebrating the impact we made together. #2025Highlights 1️⃣ – We supported communities in Bulilima, Zimbabwe, to cope with the effects of drought, reaching 4,272 children and 2,396 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Mothers and children received nutrient-rich porridge that boosted breastmilk supply and ensured their children were well fed. Beyond food, Mother-to-Mother Care Groups built knowledge on nutrition, hygiene, and child health — helping families thrive.

Today was the last day for roadshows on foundational learning in Bulilima District.The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, in partnership with Save the Children, has been holding a series of community road‑shows in Bulilima District to promote foundational learning.

Children learn best through play — games, storytelling, rhymes, reading and writing, and counting everyday objects. And the reception from parents has been encouraging. Mangwe🇿🇼 is buzzing this week! We’re out in the communities , spreading the word on foundational learning and making sure every parent gets the message. Our mobile van is moving from point to point, music playing, kids running up to see what’s happening, and parents gathering to hear why early learning matters so much. We are handing out fliers and brochures, chatting with families, and breaking things down in simple, practical ways that parents can easily use at home. These campaigns are led by the @MoPSEZim, with support from Save the Children and @UNICEFZIMBABWE , funded by the @GPforEducation. #Update: Today, our Country Director, Bhekimpilo Khanye, met with the Honourable Dr. Anxious Masuka, Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, to discuss the Adolescents and Youth for a Sustainable Future (AY4SF) Project — the USD 25 million climate resilience initiative funded by the @theGCF (GCF). The Minister expressed support for the project and confirmed its alignment with national priorities under the Agricultural Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy 2 and the National Development Strategy 2. He also committed that his Ministry will support all key processes required to begin implementation, including the signing of agreements. AY4SF aims to: ✅ Empower young people to lead climate adaptation efforts ✅ Create green jobs and sustainable livelihoods ✅ Strengthen community resilience across Zimbabwe The discussion also highlighted the important role of young people in rural transformation, the value of Village Business Units for local economic growth, and opportunities for solar-powered and green innovation solutions. Save the Children is pleased to partner with the Ministry in the implementation of this project. AY4SF project will follow a strong Government-led approach, with Save the Children, private sector actors and youth-led organisations supporting implementation. Preparations will soon kick-start for the official project launch in April 2026. Today showed us that creativity truly brings learning to life.The school we visited in #Chiredzi had a beautiful alphabet design on the classroom block wall, bursting with colour and character. The children loved it, gathering around it again and again to read the letters of the aphabet. Such simple ideas can make learning feel magical.😅 #RightToEducation for all children.

This week, Save the Children joined the International Traditional Grain Conference, contributing to a panel discussion on promoting traditional grains through culture, nutrition, branding, and heritage-based storytelling. Our Health & Nutrition Partnerships and Programmes lead represented us, highlighting the critical role of traditional grains in improving child and community nutrition.
