Haven’t shared with many, but in Oct I transitioned to industry from my postdoc. I haven’t talked about it bc tbh I’ve been feeling a lot of guilt and weird emotions about the decision. I wasn’t quite ready to make the leap, but for personal reasons this is where I needed to be.
New paper out in @CellReports! Led by @susie_feng, we found that chronic epilepsy in mice drives distinct synchronization deficits in hippocampus and MEC, with early changes in HPC and late-onset changes in MEC that align with progressive memory deficits.

NEW PREPRINT! Led by @susie_feng, we characterized memory impairment and entorhinal-hippocampal desynchronization in epileptic mice. We found early hippocampal deficits and late-onset MEC deficits that emerged with progressively worse cognitive impairment. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
BREAKING: Ke Huy Quan just won an #Oscar at the Academy Awards for best supporting actor for his role in 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'
"Mom, I just won an Oscar!!"
For those unaware Ke Huy Quan spent a year with his family in a Hong Kong refugee camp before arriving in the United States of America in 1979.
What an incredible comeback and incredible story.

Say hello to PhaSER: an open-source tool that you (yes, you!) can use to perform real-time phase-estimation and phase-specific manipulations. Here we show that PhaSER can directly manipulate the phase-locking of SOM interneurons in awake, behaving mice!
My sister—a doctor, professor, scientific author, and world famous mycologist, as these things go—got this email seconds after her dope ass NPR segment on The Last of Us and the representation of fungi in media. Can you imagine
If you're at #ACNP2022 make sure to check out my all-star postdoc @zachtpennington's poster tonight. Excited to share his work on neural circuit plasticity and stress ⚡️
ALT Headshot of Zachary Pennington, PhD with details for his poster presentation at the ACNP Annual Meeting 2022. Tuesday 12/6 from 5:30 to 7:30, Dr. Pennington will present Poster T90 titled "Plasticity in Dissociable Neural Circuits Supports the Divergent Consequences of Severe Stress" -- The Cai Lab logo is also included
I got a check-in email from my advisor saying, " I haven't heard from you in a while - how are you doing?"
Find a supportive advisor, and it makes a huge difference. Choose a Ph.D. program based on advisor and support, not ranking. @AcademicChatter@Momademia
Here we come #SfN2022! 🧠🐭 Mark your calendars for these posters from my team. Super proud of all of this hard work & looking forward to the feedback. See everyone soon in SD!
Don't miss the Cai Lab posters today & tomorrow at #SfN22! Come check out the work we've been doing on memory ensembles, stress, and dual-color calcium imaging 🐭🔬 #FBIatSfN

Since this is the first in-person SfN in years, can we start a jobs thread to help folks find potential fits? If you're hiring, or if you're looking for a job (tech, student, postdoc) in neuroscience soon, chime in below #sfn22
also goes for ppl not attending in-person :)
Are you a PhD who is curious about #altac jobs but doesn't want to go into big tech?
Here are 5 places to find diverse jobs in mission-oriented organizations 👇🏼
Great to have this @igisci@UCBerkeley study out in Nature Biomedical Engineering @natBME! We develop and integrate an extraction-free, attomolar-sensitivity CRISPR diagnostic test into a microfluidic cartridge and real-time detection device capable of detecting any RNA sequence
