🚨CHANGE 124🚨 6/9 @Nationals at @SFGiants T9 CJ Abrams now has a single instead of a throwing error charged to Matt Chapman. The throwing error remains, allowing Abrams to take 2nd. As a result, 1 run in the inning is changed to earned against Tristan Beck. Change 2 for SF #Natitude #SFGiants

That’s an error. Might be a little bit of a hop, but that’s an error. I know there is a perfect game going on for Yamamoto, but that’s an E-6.

@ScoringChanges thoughts on the meidroth “error” feels like a clear hit 🤷‍♂️

Mason is incorrect. The batter wouldn’t get charged had he struck out. That would have gone to the original batter. However, any other action would be credited to him, so had he hit a home run, it would belong to him, not the guy he replaced.
Wouldn’t sub get credit for a hit, @ScoringChanges ?

ANALYSIS: A reminder if you have this type of obstruction, you don’t assign an error because the umpire is ruling that without the obstruction the runner would have made it safely to third, so you score it as it would have happened, meaning no error.

Here is the positional batting for Allen Craig of the Cardinals, and you can see he was 1-for-1 as an "other", batting the second time in an inning after pinch hitting. Additionally, friend of the handle @stewthornley wrote an article for SABR a while back and players who homered as a nothing. In fact, he has several scoring newsletters that are fun to read: sabr.org/research/official-s…
Because you have to take the field defensively to count as that position, which can't happen til the next half inning. The nothing batter is one of my favorite scoring quirks. I'd have to consult the tomes (my scorebooks) but I'm pretty sure I have an instance of this recorded

With this change, @tigers Zach McKinstry had his average lower from .188 to .180. @Twins 2B Luke Keaschall now has seven errors, not six. P Andrew Morris had his ERA lower from 5.40 to 5.10. #NoPlaceLikeHERE #RepDetroit
🚨CHANGE 127🚨 6/10 @Twins at @tigers B5 Zach McKinstry now reaches on an error by second baseman Luke Keaschall, instead of on a single. As a result, the run scored by McKinstry later in the inning is now unearned for pitcher Andrew Morris, instead of earned Change 5 for DET #NoPlaceLikeHERE #RepDetroit

ANALYSIS: I think the scorer felt that Keaschall rushed this throw a little, but the committee has to feel it's ordinary effort, and the throw is in time, and it does seem like he was able to get around on the ball and step a bit to first.

With this change, @CleGuardians Kyle Manzardo had hit average rise from .230 to .235, and he now has 22 RBIs, not 21. @Yankees SS Jose Cabellero now has four errors, not three. P Will Warren had his ERA rise from 3.28 to 3.41. #RepBX #GuardsBall
🚨CHANGE 126🚨 6/8 @Yankees at @CleGuardians B3 Kyle Manzardo now has a single instead of an error charged to Jose Caballero. As a result, Manzardo gets an RBI and the run is changed to earned against Will Warren Change 4 for CLE #RepBX #GuardsBall

ANALYSIS: As noted when it happened, this ball hits the mound, creating a really wicked spin that Cabellero has to really guess on. The Cleveland announcers did a good job here, but the ball hitting the mound right where the rubber is, creating the spin after coming off the bat at 100.0 MPH moved this into above ordinary effort for the committee.

When any player is ejected, if a team is batting, they only have to replace the player when they go on defense. If the DH is ejected, the team can wait until their spot in the order comes up.
Replying to @ScoringChanges
Does the team have to immediately announce who the new DH, or can they pick it when it’s that slots AB?

The rule of the DH is whomever replaces the DH becomes the DH, which is locked in the batting order. Fun fact, if you pinch hit for a position player, and come up agin in the same inning, that is not a pinch hitting appearance. Instead, you bat as a “nothing”. The one position that doesn’t hold true is the pinch hitter for the DH. If that spot comes up again in the same inning, you bat as the new DH the second time. Anytime someone bats for the DH, they must be credited with a pinch hitting appearance first.

Since the starter left with a lead before pitching five innings, and Texas never lost the lead, the official scorer decides which pitcher gets the win, and it goes to the pitcher deemed most effective. He COULD have given the win to Winn (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 0 K), but he went with Latz who pitched 2.0 IP and retired all six that he faced. This won’t get changed as this is judgment of the scorer only.
Replying to @ScoringChanges
@ScoringChanges why was jacob latz just credited with a win and not a save?

A hold is recorded when a pitcher enters in a save situation, records at least one out and passes the save situation to the subsequent reliever.
Somebody want to explain to me why Lucas Erceg comes into a game with a one run lead, loads the bases with nobody out, Daniel Lynch comes in and gives up a sac fly, Erceg gets a hold, and Lynch gets a blown save? And explain it to me like I’m five.

When you say mookie will appeal, what do you mean? Like do the players have to appeal? Is it the team?

Kyle is talking about this play. I agree this should be a hit and Mookie will no doubt appeal of it doesn’t change. The center fielder is sliding and on the dead run. Nothing above the actual catch seems ordinary effort to me, and he didn’t drop this…it’s a great attempt.
Replying to @ScoringChanges
@ScoringChanges the scorer is asleep and being stubborn at the wheel in Pittsburgh. I know the “everything these days is a hit” people will be mad but by rule that is a clear hit for Mookie.
