Some personal news, after nearly 20 years of fighting to get the American mainstream sports media to treat soccer - especially women's soccer - the same as any other sport: inquirer.com/tannenwald
ALT I’m thrilled to announce that I’m going to the World Cup not only for The Inquirer, but also in partnership with other outlets. You’ve all seen by now that many of us in the media have been transparent about how much time, energy and above all money covering this World Cup is going to take. I promise you that your reactions have been seen and heard, even if those of us closest to them are usually the ones least able to do anything about it. I’m thankful to the many friends, colleagues, readers, fans, PR staffers, and even players and coaches who’ve asked me if I’m going to New Zealand. For most of the last four years, I was certain that the answer would be no, because I knew from the start of the cycle what it would take. Now the answer is yes. I can’t wait to get started, and to jump into the reporting and storytelling that I know you all want. You’ve proven over the years that the consumer demand for women’s soccer content is out there. It’s a privilege to have a role in meeting it.
