These ‘hydration breaks’ are fundamentally warping the World Cup. Curacao had just enjoyed perhaps the highlight so far with that equaliser against Germany and were on the attack again. Then three minutes to promote a laptop brand, and momentum is handed straight back. Wretched.

Soccer fans, famously known for not knowing how to celebrate victories
World Cup tourists in NYC really have no idea what they’re about to witness if the Knicks win tonight…..

2038 can only be the US, unless the rules change. Splitting 2030 between three continents was just a ploy to let Saudi host 2034 and the US host 2038.
🇪🇸 🇵🇹 🇲🇦 2030 World Cup - Spain, Portugal & Morocco 🇸🇦 2034 World Cup - Saudi Arabia Who would you give the 2038 World Cup to?

This is so fantastically Trumpian.
Official attendance figures reflect the number of tickets scanned and spectators present within the stadium footprint, rather than visual assessments of seating occupancy at any given moment during the match. FIFA works closely with stadium authorities and ticketing teams to ensure all published figures are based on verified operational data. Please note that, during last night’s match in Guadalajara, several ticketed fans could be seen standing in concourses rather than staying in their assigned seats throughout the match.
Community note
Photos from the match show thousands of empty seats throughout the stadium, contradicting the claim of only several fans in concourses. nytimes.com/athletic/73524… yahoo.com/news/world/art…

It's a shame Harry Kane the playmaker can't pass to Harry Kane the finisher really.

When the U.K. Foreign Office considered denying North Koreans visas to play at the 1966 World Cup, FIFA told the FA that they would immediately relocate the tournament. That was when FIFA still had something remotely resembling a spine.

I'm finally reading Dune. This quote, which is in the first few pages, hits hard: "Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them."

Saying fifa “clarified” the policy is suggesting we were all confused and is essentially spin. We weren’t. The policy changed. And changed again.
🗣️ Fifa has clarified their latest stadium rule on water bottles.

Interesting that the majority of the big numbers on this list are before the "X bought the league" era. Though that might indicate the way inflation has been calculated is misleading as much as anything.
Who would be the most expensive player in Premier League history adjusting for football inflation (increase in total revenue for the PL per season)? It has to be the greatest goalscorer...the one and only @alanshearer at an inflation adjusted £223.3m when signing for Newcastle. He also appears at £100.2m when signing for Blackburn. @rioferdy5 appears twice in the top dozen signings

Also someone like City could obviously have the highest total (by way of lots of <£100m entries) and not appear often on this list.
