I read this yesterday. I have experienced this at ALL of my employers. It explains A LOT that is driving today’s politics. All of which helps Russia and His Majesty’s Enemies. Return to meritocracy, today!
This is the most important article of the year. Highlights below, but you should really read it in full.

BREAK: The UK has seized a shadow fleet tanker! Early this morning, British armed forces intercepted the SMYRTOS, as it attempted to pass through the English Channel. Sir Keir Starmer said the “successful operation” delivered a “blow” to Russia and those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine. Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis said: "Russia relies on its shadow fleet to fund their conflict in Ukraine and our interdiction delivers a blow to Putin's illegal war."

Thank you 💯 "The use of violence, including terrorism, assassination, and organized gangs, to achieve political objectives is the mark of a coward. Only someone too weak to try to alter the status quo from within the system views the taking of innocent life as a necessity for change. More importantly, when people resort to terrorism or revolutionary warfare in the modern era, the status quo inevitably becomes far, far worse than it possibly could have been before crossing that line."

Ahh but then you’ve huge numbers in uniform who don’t want to be there. How do we police the AWOL? Are you going to allow military instructors to use corporal punishment? Shouting isn’t going to cut it when 100s refuse to do training
On this debate between defence and welfare spending, what if we don’t have to choose? Why can’t we say NEETs (and indeed those beyond aged 24 - say up to age 35) get 6 or maybe 12 months to find a job (/education/training) after which they would be required to join the armed forces? Refusal would mean forfeiture of all Universal Credit etc. There could be a National Volunteering Corp for those who don’t make the grade for the military or for conscientious objectors etc. Obvious carve outs for those who have a physically disability etc so really can’t work. The point is - none of this is difficult surely, IF we have a government willing to show some tough love?

This is absolutely NOT my politics What an insane take
Gut wrenching to see four young people jailed for direct action against an arms supplier to Israel. Years in prison for protesting to save lives in Gaza, with 'terrorism' used despite no jury convicting them of it. A truly dangerous attack on the right to protest.

Between 2010 and 2024, the RAF experienced the largest reduction in fleet size since the end of the Cold War. The Brirish Army lost 23 regiments. The Royal Navy lost 25 ships. Ministers who did this are still Conservatives or now in Reform UK. Don't be fooled.

Announce the end of the triple lock, approval of new N Sea oil and gas licences, and bridge the inevitable financing gap until these savings/ revenues come in with IHT-exempt War Bond issuance (which would probably be hugely oversubscribed and push down the average cost of borrowing). To govern is to choose.
This is very significant - Defence Secretary quits over defence spending saying govt plan 'falls well short' of what is needed - Healey has always been loyal to Labour, but looks like he felt he had to be loyal to his commitments to defence too

This is a good read. I am pretty hard line on many things, but I have always thought that we should be in line with more of Europe on the age of criminal responsibility and set it at 14, then treat 14-24 differently to 24 . After 24, do "prison works" to account for maturation.
Age of criminal responsibility Why knowing right from wrong is not the same as understanding what the state is about to do to you @Keir_Starmer @ShabanaMahmood @DavidLammy @LordsJHACom @MoJGovUK open.substack.com/pub/a8drew…

Yesterday the Home office announced increased powers to clamp down on high street organised crime. But the same Home Office sponsors and oversees the skilled worker visa sponsorship that many of these businesses and criminal networks are exploiting. gov.uk/government/news/new-h…

I saw a meme about how a guy 'isn't far-right', he's 'just a normal person from 1995'. I looked into it and found that average people in 1995 tended to hold lots of views that we would now consider unacceptable. Link below!

The Sudanese man trying to behead a man in Belfast entered the UK, claimed asylum, and was granted leave to remain in 2023 under the Rishi Sunak @Conservatives government. Robert Jenrick was Minister of State for Immigration. Jenrick is now Reform UK.

David Lammy’s proposals to restrict the right to jury trial have been examined by the Justice Committee of the House of Commons. And. Well. Um. It’s *quite* the report. I think it’s actually worse than politely scathing. It’s embarrassing 👇🏼🪡🧵

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Nothing was called ‘UK’ until remarkably recently. This horrid initialism rose to prominence within my short lifetime. The United Kingdom has historically been known as Britain. It’s the British Army, not the ‘UK’ Army. It’s HM Government, not ‘UK’ Government. STOP THIS SICK FILTH.
Goodbye 3 Commando Brigade, and we thank you. Welcome, UK Commando Force. The name change - formally announced by HM The King while presenting the Royal Marines with new Colours - reflects a decade of transformation. ➡️ Read more: royalnavy.mod.uk/news/2026/j…

The blatant and violent racism on display in East Belfast is absolutely sickening to the core. The scene of a family being ushered into an armoured Land Rover as their home burns is heartbreaking. You cannot not condemn the crimes

A massive fraud few call out. Anyone honest knows that while the structure and system prioritises grant capture, in some fields, funded research is more often the utter reverse of good quality. A good social scientist does not need a massive research grants to do fantastic research.
Sadly much the same in Britain as well. The agencies meant to fund and commercialise innovative and important work are captured by actors who redirect money to all sorts of nonsense. Billions of taxpayer money lost to the void.

This is very insightful. The one thing Tony doesn't mention in the article, though it fits with his explanation, is that on the 999 call Nowak was described as being drunk. Not knowing that, my impression when I first watched the BWV was the officers thought he was drunk.
An absolute must read for anyone who has or is asking the question… and is genuinely interested in the response… how could this have happened? First lie wins policeprofessional.com/featu…

One of the ways that people are responding to the debate on #TwoTierPolicing is to push the "but the police as racist, but to black people" argurment, and use some very dodgy, dated and unsound activist research to back claims of police racism.
