Bob Redford and I were friends for almost 45 years, since he asked me to be a Founding Trustee of the Sundance Institute. He was a generous supporter and a fierce advocate for making America a more perfect union.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with him in the U.S. Senate as his colleague for eight of those years. Despite being from different political parties, we worked closely together for the betterment of Connecticut and the country.

For me personally, I lost a dear friend. Harry and I served together for several decades, but in our final years together, we worked side-by-side, on a near-daily basis, to respond to the financial crisis in 2008 and pass both the Affordable Care Act and Wall Street reform.
