It was an honor to meet with William Lafitte of Laurel, Mississippi, who was in D.C. this week for the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Advocacy Legislative Seminar. Our veterans made extraordinary sacrifices to protect our freedoms, and I am grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from William about how we can best serve those who have served our nation. Mississippi is proud of its veterans, and I will always fight to ensure their voices are heard in Washington.

I’m glad that the Senate passed bipartisan legislation I cosponsored to crack down on contraband cellphones in federal penalties – upgrading the penalty from a misdemeanor to a felony. Inmates use these phones to run drug operations, order hits, and traffic people. It’s past time the federal law reflects the seriousness of these threats, and I urge the House to pass it and get it to President Trump’s desk.

That’s why I joined colleagues to reintroduce the Community College Agriculture Advancement Act, a smart, practical investment to level the playing field and give these institutions access to resources that are often out of reach.

Mississippians have shared their stories with me about the stress caused by rising insulin prices. When patients are forced to ration dosages, it often leads to hospitalizations and serious complications that are dangerous, strain family budgets, and cost taxpayers. I’m proud to cosponsor the bipartisan INSULIN Act to cap out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35 a month and make this lifesaving medicine more accessible for every Mississippian and American who needs it.
