The public assistance programs in our country trap people in poverty and hold people back from pursuing the American dream. Parents miss opportunities to accept raises and promotions – young people forgo getting jobs – all because the benefits cliff would punish them for their hard work and leave them worse off financially.   That’s why I’m working on the Upward Mobility Act—to give families a better shot at the American dream.

Employers across Ohio have told me they want to promote their workers or give them a raise, but their employees can’t accept it because more hours or a bigger paycheck would be overpowered by a complete loss of federal assistance for them and their families. The Upward Mobility Act would allow Ohioans and Americans say yes to new opportunities and help move people off public assistance.

Under Joe Biden’s failed leadership, illegal criminals not only flooded our country, but infiltrated Ohio and made our communities less safe. Today, justice was served to 3 illegal immigrants who shamelessly exploited and assaulted children and abused our immigration laws. This is disgusting behavior that should never be tolerated. It is why recent action to overcome Democrat opposition and fully fund federal agents and Border Protection makes Ohioans safer. By providing a financial foundation, these accounts can help them pursue education, career opportunities, and other important milestones as they transition into adulthood.

In a time of global unrest, it’s unacceptable that it took this long for Congress to fund federal law and immigration enforcement. I was proud to vote in favor of this and happy @POTUS wasted no time in signing it.

At our Ohio Open House, I heard directly from leaders across our state about the issues important to them—from agriculture and aviation safety to education and more. Hearing firsthand from Ohioans about their concerns and priorities is one of the most important parts of my week.

What is the difference between community care and the Veterans’ ACCESS Act? One expands health care choices for those who rely on the VA, the other requires the VA to offer these options at ease to the patient, as @SenJonHusted explains.

Ohio’s lakes, rivers, and waterways are part of what makes our state special. During National Fishing and Boating Week, we celebrate the outdoors, the Great Lakes, and the communities and jobs they support.

Ohio is leading the way in economic and workforce development, which was on full display recently as I traveled our state.

Tina and I are praying for everyone impacted by the senseless violence in Toledo tonight. We are grateful for law enforcement who acted quickly to protect Ohioans and are working to locate the suspects and bring them to justice.

Graduates must have the right skills to compete in the job market. By connecting Ohio high school students to career center services, we can help them graduate ready for a fulfilling career.

82 years ago today, more than 2,500 brave Americans gave their lives storming the beaches of Normandy in the fight against Nazi tyranny.   We honor those who embarked upon the “Great Crusade” to liberate Europe. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
