Last night's @ChiPubSchools board meeting ran over 6 hours and ended with members unsure what they were even voting on. Families wanted a clear path forward. They got chaos. Blowing ideological hot air before a renewal deadline isn't serving students. Chicago's kids deserve a board that sets direction BEFORE a crisis. My full statement: sendhilforcps.com/news/sendh…

With my family by my side this morning, I filed nearly 7,000 signatures to run for President of the Chicago Board of Education. Signers came in from all 50 wards — from Rogers Park to Roseland, from Austin to South Shore. This campaign belongs to every one of them, and to *every* Chicago resident who cares about the future of our students and the future of our city. On to November 3!

The @ChiPubSchools structural deficit isn't news; we've known for 5 years. The 2022 entanglements report walked through it Pretending we're surprised dodges the central question: are these budgets built to help kids learn? We owe it to our kids and our city to make this a YES.
NEWS: Chicago Public Schools is gearing up to release school budgets next week. With massive deficits looming in 2026-27 and beyond, these budgets will likely include some cuts after years of holding the line or steering more money to schools. chalkbeat.org/chicago/2026/0…

In one of the best cities in the world, too many @ChiPubSchools students aren't ready for what comes next. We need a Board of Education with the clarity, commitment, and courage to ensure all our students are learning, not trying to score political points. That's what I want as a CPS parent. That's what I expect as a Chicago resident. And that's why I'm running for the Board presidency this fall. Thanks to @tahmanbradley for the invitation to join him on The Point on @WGNTV last night! wgntv.com/news/politics/wgn-…

Every time the adults running our schools choose political games over our students’ success, our kids lose, and our city loses. Despite all those declaring victory, a near miss from a self-inflicted wound isn’t good governance. The Board of Education needs new leadership. Do better.
Chicago schools chief Macquline King says a new May Day agreement with the Chicago Teachers Union strikes a balance between protecting classroom time and honoring "the proud history of civic action in Chicago." chalkbeat.org/chicago/2026/0…

Revuluri kicked off his campaign last October, lamenting at the time that “politics and adult self-interest have taken priority over our kids’ futures.” “The results are devastating,” he said in a statement, “declining enrollment, record absenteeism, wasted resources, and too many of our students falling behind. It’s time for leadership that restores trust, focuses on learning, and puts children — not politics — first.”
For decades, Chicago’s Board of Education has been the only one in Illinois handpicked by the city’s mayor. And for just as long, education advocates have called for that board to be an elected body. This fall, those advocates will get their wish. to.wttw.com/3O3pgaT

As a teacher & @ChiPubSchools parent, I saw how losing school days hurts kids… and absenteeism has spiked Now @ChicagosMayor is strong-arming CPS to close schools on May 1… not to improve student outcomes, but to advance a political agenda
Multiple CPS sources tell me CEO King had a tense phone call with the Mayor yesterday - after putting out guidance that classes would go on as scheduled May 1st. King deferred to the Board of Ed when CTU filed a grievance - claiming they should be able to move a planned "Professional Development" day from June to May 1. The CTU-aligned appointed board of Ed members voted to approve in a closed door straw poll - providing majority support. Thus, barring more last minute confusion, classes are canceled May 1 for CTU members to attend May Day rallies. CTU has also called for curriculum teaching kids about protesting, labor history and the significance of MayDay...

Chicagoans deserve a Board of Education that asks hard questions and puts students first. Our students, our city, and CPS deserve better leadership.

Finally, with < 8 months to go, most Chicagoans aren't yet informed about this election. The most powerful thing ALL of us can do right now is to spread the word: tell your friends, neighbors, & followers. To build an effective board, true accountability starts with awareness.

Choosing the next @ChiPubSchool CEO is one of the most important decisions Chicago’s Board of Education will make for our kids. It’s too important to get wrong. The finalists bring real experience. That matters. 🧵

What doesn’t help: a politicized process with no clear goals, no transparent criteria, and no real plan to measure success. This process needs to be serious about delivering for students. Not a CEO who "only serves the mayor." x.com/WBEZ/status/2032490471…

The finalists are Chicago Public Schools interim CEO Macquline King, former New York City schools chancellor Meisha Ross Porter, and Sito Narcisse, the former superintendent of Louisiana’s East Baton Rouge Parish schools. wbez.org/education/2026/03/1…
