New lab alert!! 🚨 Emily heads off to start the Aery Jones lab! She’s a fantastic, creative and thoughtful scientist who is also an awesome mentor! If you have the opportunity to join her lab - don’t hesitate! I can’t recommend it enough!
I am thrilled to announce that the Aery Jones lab will be starting in January 2026 @UMBaltimore! I've accepted a position in the Department of Neurobiology and Medicine Institute for Neuroscience Discovery.
Reminder— here was Russ Vought, Trump’s budget guy just confirmed 53-47 by the senate, caught on a hidden camera saying Trump’s Project 2025 disavowal was a lie, they’re keeping their real plans secret, they want to only let in Christian immigrants, etc..

Giulio's talk at preASSC satellite 2024. Great intro for IIT per se. Also useful for those who are considering to apply for Qstr-IIT summer school! RT please!
hello world. we have an opening for a strong theory postdoc to work in my lab on a exciting collaboration with Josh Berke and Loren Frank labs modeling and analyzing data on rat hipp-pfc-bg-da involvement in spatial maze foraging, replay, value etc. here: puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHir…
I ran @USAID health programs for the last 3 years. Trump’s 90 day Stop Work Order on foreign assistance does serious damage to the world and the US. Examples:🧵
Trump on H1B: HB1, I know the program very well. I use the program, maître d's, wine experts, even waiters, high quality waiters. You got to get the best people.
How does the brain solve the problem of consolidating new information without interference with prior knowledge? In our recent paper we propose that sleep microstructure and hippocampal replay may offer a solution. Check this thread from first author and super start @hongyu_chang
During sleep deprivation we actually saw *more* ripples than during sleep! But these ripples displayed diminished reactivation and replay, with limited rebound in recovery sleep. Impressive work by @Bapun_K_Giri@kinsky_nat.
influence of muscle noise on spectrum & 1/f-exponent estimation, example from EEG. generally: the more muscle noise, the flatter the spectrum at higher frequencies.
🚨New Research🚨
Two new studies published in @Nature from our Kamran Diba PhD (@sharpwaveripple) look at what's going on inside the brain during sleep — or sleep deprivation — to help or harm the formation of memories.

🤯 Key brain signal linked to memory formation deteriorates after sleep deprivation, finds a study in rats.
Even a night of normal slumber after a poor night’s sleep isn’t enough to fix the brain signal.

We see this as a key step forw on how cortex works.
All cortical areas have dense exc-exc recurrent connectivity.
What do these connections do, esp in sensory ctx?
Our data say: they do dynamics/time.
