Students who identify as LGBQ disproportionately experience sadness and hopelessness, and are at an increased risk for suicide.
Nearly 70% felt sad or hopeless, and almost half seriously considered attempting suicide in 2021.

While 35 percent of heterosexual students felt sad or hopeless in 2021, 69 percent of LGBQ plus students did. 15 percent of heterosexual students seriously contemplated suicide, while 45 percent of LGBQ plus students did. And 6 percent of heterosexual students attempted suicide, while 22 percent of LGBQ plus students did.
