When I was a child, I thought everything America did was great and everyone who hated America was bad.
When I was a young adult, I started reading Chomsky and Howard Zinn and thought America was evil.
Today, I'm old enough to understand more about history, economics and international diplomacy. I see America as a deeply flawed country still suffering from the original wound of slavery - but a general force for geostability. We have admirable ideals when we live up to them. And as fascism is on the rise all around the globe, I understand that if we don't get our shit together - fascism will win.
America *is* great, but only when good people help steer the ship.
