Labour MP Kim Leadbeater on Radio 4 this morning bemoaning the polarisation in Britain and arguing that the "forces" trying to "divide us" need to be "challenged more". I'd pay a bit more attention if she had spoken out a bit more forcefully against the extremist forces in her own constituency who hounded the Batley schoolteacher and sent him into hiding. Instead, she released a statement (a year later) which included the line: "The reason I am not discussing this matter publicly is that I have specifically been asked not to by the family involved." How brave.

Ironic yet somehow perfectly apt that Starmer's big legacy measure - the under-16 social media ban - is something he didn't actually believe in and resisted pretty forcefully.

It is literally insane simultaneously to think that 16 and 17 year olds are mature enough to vote but not mature enough to look at Instagram at 8:30pm. This is comically absurd.

Now she’s saying by making these apps an 18plus community Starmer is making the apps very unsafe for people slipping through the ban But she’s refusing to write him a letter, because “who has time for that?” It’s not the day to suggest “why all the children no longer on SM”

A truly wonderful story. And, come on, admit it: you wouldn't raise even an eyebrow if your spouse spent around 5% of their post-tax income buying a pair of your old shoes. You'd think this perfectly normal behaviour and shame on those who think differently.
