English Cathedrals are sacred spaces in changing times. Was good to join @deanportsmouth for a celebration in Parliament of the contribution of @PortsmouthCath to local life and wider work of all cathedrals with our nation’s communities.

Great to see Dean John again in Westminster ahead of this week's Ripon Cathedral Rural Housing Conference. Ripon Cathedral plays such an important role at the heart of our North Yorkshire community. It was good to discuss the work being done to support community-backed rural housing across North Yorkshire, & I am sure the conference will be a success.

Today in the House of Lords we are debating the impact of artificial intelligence on human relationships and society. AI will shape many aspects of our lives in the years ahead. It brings significant opportunities, but also important questions about connection, dignity, truth and what it means to be human. Britain has a tax on instruments that don’t exist any more. It raises no revenue. It never applies. It was meant to be abolished this year, but wasn't. It still exists. Anyway, I made a chart of all 85 UK taxes.

The Archbishop of Canterbury will host a Lords debate on "the impact of AI on human relationships & society", on 5 June. This will also provide Parliament with an extended opportunity to discuss the Pope's encyclical.
In the era of #ArtificialIntelligence, when human dignity is threatened by new forms of dehumanization, ours is the pressing duty to remain profoundly human. We must lovingly safeguard the grandeur of humanity bestowed upon us and revealed in its fullness in Christ, the splendor of which no machine can ever replace. #MagnificaHumanitas vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

Unfortunately it doesn’t apply to those zoos, heritage organisations, gardens, museums, galleries, historic sites and other attractions which are charities, meaning that they have been placed at a competitive disadvantage during one of their most important trading periods. Great for private sector, not for charities.

Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dame Felicity Lott; ā€˜Flott’ was an icon to generations of musicians, and especially at her alma mata @RoyalHolloway. Her encouragement to so many young and upcoming musicians was inspiring. We mourn a true great.
